Notre Dame is going to be extremely difficult to turn around because of their academic standards and location.
Tennessee is going to be difficult to turn around because of their recent NCAA troubles, coaches leaving town in the middle of the night, and location.
Alabama was pretty much in the clear with the NCAA by the time Saban took the job, and the in-state talent is pretty good.
Again, I'm not saying this is a definite reason for Saban wanting to stay. It's just a guess. I really don't know.

I'm really not even arguing about Saban, I just mean in a general sense (not this year but over the next 20 years)
I don't think Saban should leave Bama because when you move you have to put everything back together again and build upwards... and that is teh same reason I thought he should have stayed at LSU a few years ago.
Having said that I think if he went to Texas he would probably be in a much more dominant position than he is presently at Alabama... because Texas is that rare job with pretty much no limitations and more advantages than pretty much every other job not named Florida
Do I think he will leave Bama? No. Is Texas a better job than Bama? Yes, clearly IMO

He would have as much power as he has now, and in a much weaker conference, so I'm not going to say I totally agree, but I don't disagree either. I think you make a fair point.

he would be at the flagship school of maybe the most talent rich state in the country, he would have unlimited resources and instead of going head to head for recruits against Florida, UGA, and LSU he could pretty much pick and choose within Texas and then target a very few players from other states.
Within the conference he would have a bunch of decent schools but only one other powerhouse program instead of the handful or perhaps six you see in the SEC... and that plus the name factor associated with Texas would make the path to a NC very smooth

the only reason i see saban possibly to texas is if espn is pushing for it. yea, i know it is crazy, but espn has 300 million reasons for texas to win football games. and espn views saban as the best coach in the land. i don't think mack brown steps down but who knows crazier things have happened before.
i think in the end it is a ploy by sexton to get saban a raise.

No doubt, but there has to be a reason why Texas isn't consistently in the title hunt. I can't figure it out. They're always loaded with talent, most from the state, and they play in a weaker conference. You would think it would be a lot easier to go undefeated and play for titles.

The difference in the top programs is marginal. Arguing over whether Texas, Florida, ND, Bama is "better" than the others is like arguing over who is the hottest model in the Vicoria's Secret catalog.
Also the idea that Texas can just outbid everyone is amusing. First of all the gap in revenue between them and everyone else is not as large as people think. But the real question is why would they pay $10M for a coach? Its not like they've been struggling for years and are desperate to get back on top. They were in the BCS CG 2 years ago and most of their fans think they would have won if McCoy didn't get hurt. Its only fans of other schools, SEC teams mainly that think he's an "underachiever".

well our coach doesnt exactly have the history of jumping from program to program like Saban does either....therefore technically he is up for consideration whenever a large program opens up

Texas is annually rated the best college job. LSU and bama are in the top 10, but rabid fanbases creating unrealistic expectations and lots of pressure make Texas a better job.
But Miles and Saban have sweet deals. They aren't leaving IMO.

Texas is the only one of those three that would have an easier time winning (and being a god among the locals)
Alabama (the state) just blows, and you have to compete with auburn for in state recruits.
Dolphins are in one of the hardest divisions in the nfl.. and they suck.

Except of course the fact he's always moved upwards in his coaching jobs.
There's nowhere higher to go in college football. The only thing left to leave for is another challenge.
There's the NFL, but that just doesn't fit Saban unless he maybe took the Patriots job.

The point being, there are about 7-10 jobs in college football that have negligible differences. Southern Cal, Texas, and Florida will offer more inherent recruiting advantages. Texas will offer more money. Places like Alabama, Notre Dame, and Michigan will offer more history. But any of these jobs can be argued to be a top job.
