True but a lot more guaranteed money and job security at the college level. He has all the negotiating power over ND right now to get 100 million guaranteed. No NFL team would offer him anything like that and wouldn’t hesitate to fire him after one bad year.

Well I will say, NFL head coaching money has exploded in the last decade and ND notoriously balked at 100 mil for Brian Kelly, pre NIL/portal era, so they may be even more hesitant to commit that money given that same cash can go to NIL instead

Well Allen will be gone and Caleb has shown many times this year that while sometimes capable of the spectacular he often struggles with the mundane.

That sounds like most rookie seasons
I get people are really invested in him being bad, but he his board has gone crazy with the way they describe him vs the way he’s viewed around the league. There’s a reason he was viewed as a can’t miss prospect, and him showing his weaknesses as a rookie isn’t going to throw a ton of cold water on that immediately. Especially when he’s on a rookie deal so it’s not like you are locked into a Watson level deal with him.
Not many jobs that open that already have a good to great veteran QB in place. And when those jobs do open up, they usually don’t chase the up and coming hot college prospect.

It’s worth the risk. Unless he’s an absolute disaster in Chicago - we’re talking getting canned for sexual harassment or getting in a fistfight with a player on the sidelines - he could go back to college and have his choice of marquee jobs.

Maybe. But the guy had more at disposal than any rookie qb in recent memory from a supporting cast standpoint especially for a supposed cant miss type of prospect.
Maybe a new regime gets it going for him but I still think it’s a very real possibility the guy just doesn’t really have it upstairs and is a bit of a head case. I’m pulling for him and Chicago by proxy to eventually have a decent passing game.

Sure definitely possible. But you’re a lot more willing to come to that conclusion because you started at a position that was already thinking / wanting him to be a bust (I assume) or at the very least weren’t convinced on him as being that good already
However, If you’re one of the many league scouts and execs that would’ve cut off your left nut for him last year, you probably aren’t as close to that conclusion after a year that he threw for 3500 yards with a 20:6 TD-INT ratio.
