I was speaking with someone who used to be on the BoS who gave his/her seat to someone in his/her family. In that person’s words, “we’ll pay that boy whatever he wants to stay here.”

um
we had deals with both guys under Alleva
it's just the BOS/Governor overruled the Jimbo deal after Les won that game and Herman scorned us for Texas after the story leaked

i think if O had hired a real OC with a modern offense last year, Burrow would have been quite legit
just look at what a guy like Harrell did at USC this year. he wasn't even their first option (that guy is coaching in the NFL)
there are lots of good OCs out there, it's just that Les (and O prior to this year) refused to take the risk

The good seasons by Wade and Orgeron have the impression that Alleva was competent, when he fricked up numerous things and was generally a bad AD.

Alleva's biggest problem was having no spine. he was simply a coward and bucked to pressure (that includes the O hire)
but yeah if we don't luck into Burrow last year, O is almost assuredly fired after a terrible season and then the Wade issue compounding that means Alleva would have NO love or respect anymore
Wade skating and Burrow making football elite changes a lot of hindsight bias and makes Alleva look a lot better
