What makes you think LSU seriously wants Mason? They have guys outside Freeman that are higher on their list. Mason contacted LSU not the other way around. That guy would wreck the locker room in 1 season. We don't need that shite over here. Don't be surprised if he puts a female on the field for y'all at LB.

Yes the guy who led the nation in defensive effeciency for 2 years at Stanford, is a guy who would wreckbtje locker room. If that's the case you have a shitty lockerroom.

Freeman should be top of the list. SC we reached as high as we could and got him...laugh and say what you want but Mason is a stud DC

An interesting outside the mainstream candidate would be the DC at Northwestern.

Agree with all except the 2 year part! One year max!! The only way it’s more than one year is if he has a really bad year with us which I wouldn’t anticipate.

I’ve never truly realized how out of touch LSU fans are with reality until this board.

Let me educate the idiots on this board. First of all, Bo Pelini’s salary last year(2.3 mil) was more than all but 3 coaching jobs outside the power 5. Two men made more than him Sark and Steele.

2.5 million is tops in the NCAA for coaching Salaries. The chances of Freeman saying no to 2.3-2.5 million is slim to none.

Everybody needs to quit acting like Freeman has more bargaining power than Brent Venables. He is going to get a Top offer and he will have no counter. He may have other options but again the LSU DC gig has more talent and opportunity than any other job open.

Secondly, He is interviewing for LSUs job. Again, I repeat if LSU wants Freeman there is high probability we get him but we have to offer him.

Forgot about that. Should have looked it up. I was just going on the product on the field.

The guy is one of the hottest names in coaching right now. He's 34 and clearly wants a head coaching job. I realize Cincinnatti to LSU is a big step up, but I think he's got his sights set on more than a SEC DC job.

The last guy that was a successful DC for LSU got a power 5 head coaching job. Hell the passing game coordinator went from Saints analyst to NFL OC after one season at LSU.

Cincy DC to LSU DC is a step up and if Fickle were to leave Cincy after next year they would still hire him in a heartbeat from LSU.

Thank you. Reading this thread I’d swear I was a fan of a MAC team. The LSU DC jobs is one of the top 10 nonHC positions in all of CFB.

Hope I'm wrong. He's my #1 choice.

I'm with you. I don't think he'll come to LSU. I think he'll go into a HC job somewhere or he'll take a DC job somewhere in the Midwest or Rust Belt. I just don't see him pegging his career to an opportunity with Coach O.

Yeah I mean how often does Freeman get to attach his name to one of 6 coaches with a natty since 2005.

I’m so fricking tired of the tigerdroppings narrative of O. Yall have been brainwashed by idiocy.

I don’t think we get Freeman either. I’d be content with Odom though. That is if O can pry him away from Fayetteville. Also wouldn’t be surprised if it were a name that hasn’t been talked about yet.

Doesn't matter, you make a damn strong offer and make him say no. If he says yes, profit. If he says no, move on.

I could see him not taking the position. Seems like a Midwest guy and may have his sights on a HC job in that region

If the goal is a Power 5 job, what gets you there quicker?

1. Stay DC at Cincinnati, maybe get HC there next season when Fickell leaves, then move up to P5 job in 2-3 years if successful. That’s 4-5 years from now.

2. Become LSU DC, take advantage of talent to improve worst D in country to top 20. Start fielding P5 job offers after year 2. Plus get paid about what Cinci HC gets.

Yep agree been saying this too.

LSU DC is faster route to P5 head coaching gig than being a head coach for a G5 school and has less responsibility.

Also, even an average DC will have what appears to be a miraculous defensive turnaround at LSU because we were so bad and so lost last year despite talent.

I think you are overstating Freeman's value.

The guy is a hot name. But, he's young. He's fairly unproven. And, he's a DC under a HC who is a defensive guy.

He's not stepping into a big job (Head Coach) this year. His next move is either a small school HC job...or a big school coordinator position.

Money talks, but I think it will be a difficult pull for LSU. He is an Ohio native, coaching in Ohio, with a guy who was his DC when he was a player at Ohio St. Coaches move all the time, but that is a lot of familiarity in one place to pick up and leave. Especially considering he has a large family who are all probably really comfortable in Ohio.

It is a great opportunity and an interview he has to take (even if just for negotiating leverage purposes). But taking my purple and gold glasses off, it seems like it could be a very tough pull for LSU. At minimum, this guy is in high demand and (likely) has several options. LSU is going to have to come to the table with a large contract...which ordinarily wouldn't be a problem...except for the fact they completely blew money on a guy with ZERO demand last season (Pelini) and gave O an unnecessarily massive raise (he'd still happily be the HC at LSU for $2 million less with no risk whatsoever of him leaving). I'm not saying LSU won't pay (I think they will). But this year's failure makes those financial mistakes even more burdensome.

If he’s LSU DC for 2 years and succeeds then his future HC options will be much better than if he were to jump into a HC job right now
