This is a very true statement, the next guy will look like a genius.

If so then there would be no chance of him considering DC role at LSU. No need for an interview/meeting. If he is interviewing for LSU, it isn’t for a HC job.

I'll stick to my leverage story. He entertain the offer. He'll see who will best it. Ultimately, decline it for a HC, or back to Cincy. Damn, I hope I'm wrong. But when you want your #1 so bad, it's more than likely a leverage opportunity.

I think Fickell is telling him to go get next level experience so he can either take his job at Cincy if he moves on or better yet come with him as DC at bigger program. I believe Fickell is on the short list to succeed Ryan Day if he leaves. If that happened I would not be surprised to see Freeman to go back to the Mother Ship with him...

Mason has lost focus. He was more interested in getting an ESPY by putting a girl on the field, rather than having his more capable punter kick off.

If he is interviewing, by definition there is a chance.

I think Fickell IS the list if Ryan Day left, but Ryan Day is really young and building his own Death Star in Columbus. Dude also said he's not interested in the NFL a few days ago.

I just don't see him leaving for a long, long time.

Mason never wanted a female kicker kicking FGs. He was actually fired before it happened and reportedly was against playing her over other healthy kickers on the roster. He was open to her trying out and being on the sideline but that's it.

University President at Vandy stepped in and fired him and basically told the new coach the chick gets to kick.

ETA:

I don't want Mason as DC, just clearing up this bullshite that seems to be repeated on here.

He was coach of the game where she kicked the squib and won the sec special teams player of the week.

He might have been against it but he, let her talk at half time and let her kick off the second half.

The next day Mason was fired and then vandy had to cancel a game because of players refusing to play and then she kicked the extra points.

Mason still was the one to first play her.

He didn't want her kicking FGs/Xps was what I meant.

The half time thing is hilarious though. Apparently she asked to do it in front of everyone, what's he going to say, no? That would be career suicide when it leaked.

The Bears gave GB a good run yesterday. I don’t see Fitz going anywhere else, and the Bears job isn’t open.

Yeah I agree with this.

I think he had thrown in the towel and knew he was fired at that point and just said "frick it, do what you want".

Except, Mason put her in to kickoff when he was still the coach, when he had a punter that was more qualified. And, he would have had her kickb extra points, but they got shutout that game.

Assumption.

Vanderbilt folks say she couldn't do it in pre-game so Mason was going to use a punter for those.

Yours is the bigger assumption. Mason could have used the punter to kickoff, but went with the girl.

Are you directing that at me? You clearly have a hard time with reading comprehension if so. Never said we wouldn’t get him. The whole point of my comment was to say he’s only here for 1 year not 2-3 years like some are saying. If you think he’s not going to get a HC offer after 1 year with us you’re out of touch

I'm with you. I don't think he'll come to LSU. I think he'll go into a HC job somewhere or he'll take a DC job somewhere in the Midwest or Rust Belt. I just don't see him pegging his career to an opportunity with Coach O.

Which school is offering him a head coaching job right now making 2M+ and nationally televised games every week to hype his resume? No one.

Why would he take a DC job in the Midwest or rust belt for much less money and prestige?

Your last statement about “pegging his career to an opportunity with Coach O” says a lot.

I don't think he is really interested in the job.
