BOB may be viewed as toxic on the NFL level, so if he got an OC job it would probably be a bottom tier one. Which likely means his QB sucks and you're tenure probably short lived.

Go get the guaranteed success with Bama's talent, be viewed as innovative again if/when it thrives, then find yourself as a more in demand NFL OC or P5 coach

I’d be kinda nervous about those 2 names if I’m an Alabama fan

Gase has proven nothing besides being able to get a recommendation letter from Peyton Manning. And I think BOB is a good coach but the dynamic between he and Saban has the potential to be hilarious.

BOB would be fun to watch roster management if he is in charge

that's the whole thing, though. BOB has to resign himself to being a college coach or being Brian Daboll

I don't think BOB even considers the job unless he is willing to do just that. Saban is probably the ONLY college HC with the gravitas to make such a situation work (at least for a time). He did just that with Kiffin. USC (asst.)-> Raiders HC -> Tennessee HC -> USC HC - Alabama OC.

They had some very public sideline blowups, but Kiffin clearly resigned himself to being just an OC despite several years being a HC

BOB had a good tenure at Penn St. He had moments of good (coaching) at Houston. He won't have to be the GM at Alabama and he'll get the luxury of almost always having the most talented roster on the field. As much as I hate to say it, while this could be a disaster with any other HC at any other program, it almost assuredly won't at Alabama. Saban's consistent results despite countless staff turnover says as much.

It would be great to listen in on them comparing NFL head coaching stints.

mean i defended him for being well above win expectations in miami, but this jets run? yeesh

The Miami thing ended up hurting him even more since pretty much every player from those teams who left, went on to be much better players else where

I think Gase will get it. He is big time Saban guy.

I don't think it really matters at this point, the Bama machine will roll along until Nick departs. I mean frick we all laughed when Locksley was made OC.

You would have to be a grossly incompetent coach to mismanage the talent advantage they have over 98% of their opponents.

I don't see how BOB doesn't get a college HC gig at a lower tier P5 school.

Prob doesn’t want that. I could see him going OC for Saban just to rehab his career then look for NFL opening again.

Saban has the machine built so well that it will probably keep rolling for a decade or so before it comes off the tracks.

maybe but outside of Dabo, I think (hope) the successor ends up collapsing under the pressure of the unrealistic expectations he'll have on him

I wouldn't.

Saban more often than not hits a home run with his coordinating hires because, at the end of the day, it's his program. We have a thread on our board right now highlighting how people laughed at Alabama for hiring Sarkisian two years ago, with quotes and all. I'll trust his judgment over yours.

B0B and Saban are incompatible

I would think so too but O Brien did work for Belichick. Egos change over time though and it would be fascinating to see if he could go from total control to getting berated by Saban

When O Brien has been left to OCing he’s been a good OC. He was an average NFL HC too and made Christian Hackenburg look good at the college level.

Would be yet another homerun for Saban if this happens.
