The Colorado fit would be weird but it would get him at a P5, but South Florida is the place I think he would thrive with all the Florida/Georgia talent he can garner. Also the article states he’s not talking to Auburn at the moment

Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders has reportedly "been in discussions with power-brokers" to potentially fill vacancies at Colorado or South Florida, according to Carl Reed of 247Sports.

Auburn also has an opening, although the school is expected to go in a different direction and has not had contact with Sanders.

This seems more logical than him jumping directly into the SEC.

Absolutely nothing against him, but I don't think we really even know if he can coach.

And that's not intended as a slight — I just think we simply don't have a lot to go on, based on his current circumstances at Jackson State.

These would be the types of programs where he could establish himself and demonstrate his ability to assemble a staff, recruit successfully against more capable competition, and actually oversee a program.

I would go to South Florida if I were him. He probably would rather recruit Florida.

USF would be the choice imo. Lower level but a school that has had success in fertile recruiting ground. Do well there and the P5 will come calling. And not low level P5, but some actual good programs

Yes, after Gus rejoins Auburn.

Yeah Colorado would be odd. Their admin seems to actively hate football. Could probably improve their California pipeline, which they need but a Florida school seems like such a natural fit.

There’s the dreaded fit argument again

Deion would give Colorado instant relevance and they’ve been so bad so long that even if he just did okay there it would seem like he did an incredible job

How many HOF football players went on to become really great HCs? It just doesn't happen often. And he's currently winning in the SWAC...which is one of the worst Division 1 conferences in all of college football. Even for as bad as a school like Colorado has been recently, the competition in the Pac 12 is leaps and bounds better than anything "Coach Prime" will have ever faced in the SWAC. In fact, he's never coached against a major conference opponent.

His "candidacy" is completely media driven because of his notoriety as a player, with the belief being that he would be able to recruit great black players. While I have no doubt he would be able to recruit a few great players initially, it's not like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St, LSU, etc would suddenly be unable to recruit such great players as they have been doing for decades. And once the initial novelty of the hire wears off, he'd still have to produce results. If not, he would be criticized just like every other major conference coach. Deion has never really be criticized because of his on field performance, do I doubt he would take such criticism well.

Colorado is interesting - with the right coach, you can win there. But, is the admin at CU ready to win again?

With how vocal Deion is about admins, CU would be a disaster.

I would go USF. Colorado acts like they want football to be successful, but they don't do what it takes.

Their greatest success came in the late 80s/early 90's when they essentially started bringing in a lot of great players who were on the on the borderline of being academically eligible. They were able to ride the program success through the rest of the 90's, but really haven't done a lot since.

It's a beautiful campus in a beautiful part of the country, but it has no natural recruiting base for football. To have ANY success a coach has to get several guys from California, Texas, and other states. Maybe in a watered down Pac 12 with USC and UCLA gone, and Oregon and Washington soon to follow, a Colorado could win the conference. But would that really be a great achievement?

Half the Auburn Board would be ready to string you up by your toes for saying something like that 3 weeks ago.

It's really unbelievable that people think he can jump into a place like the SEC and do a massive rebuild based on his name alone.

The powers to be at Auburn, Ole Miss, are not going to hire a black head coach, much less someone with little experience. Sorry to burst the PC bubble, but Deion is not getting an SEC job anytime soon. Yeah yeah, I know Miss St hired Croom, already.

USF isn't what people think. They don't even have their own stadium. You also have a lot of homeless that surround the campus. I'm not sure they have the boosters to support NIL either.

Idk about OM, but if the PTB we're that concerned about race, Carnell Williams would have never been the interim HC. He has about the same experience as Prime except he hasn't been the head coach anywhere outside of 3 games.

It's down to resumè. Not skin color. Neither would be entrusted to run a $100 football program at this point in their career.
