If that fricker wrote a page a day he would have finished his novel in 3 years. Yet here we sit 8 years later. It’s like he is trying not to finish the series.

I don’t think he IS trying anymore. Sad. After he dies someone will basically adapt the HBO series, make up and tie in threads that didn’t exist in the books, and match the end.

But if he did finish I don’t think his ending will be the same as the show.

I really want to read Snow’s reaction when he finds out his parentage. Harrington will give a great performance, i’m Sure but reading it GRRM-style puts it on another level. That’s what I want.

I really hope this is true. I've tried to avoid the later seasons in the show just on the off chance he finishes the book. It's pretty much impossible, though. There are certain parts of pop culture that I will just catch no matter how hard I try. For that reason, I hope he can vary a lot of the events in the books.

Maybe Brian Hebert and Kevin Anderson will take it over.

You know what sucks?

I didn't know they were books when I first started the show.

Loved the show and decided to start reading.

Read the first book and loved it.

Then I spent too much time on this board and M/TV and learned about Martin's flat refusal to finish the series.

Never picked up the second book as good as I've heard they are because I just don't want to start a series that may never be completed. That just sounds too damn frustrating to invest in.

frick that.

I was/am one the biggest ASOIAF fans you can find but I’m not about to miss out on a show that I enjoy for a book series that will most likely never be completed

You should read the next two, well worth it, whether he finishes or not.

I think I read that Brandon Sanderson would finish it if needed.

I have been waiting since Storm of Swords came out in 2000 and have been disappointed since then. The show was well done but I was a bit bored with it because I had read the first three books so much. I am well over it now, don't care if the book and the show ever get finished.

I think I'm the same way, read the first 3 or 4, thought it didn't really deliver on its initial promise as much. I'll watch the show and if he ever finishes the series, i'll back and read it start to finish at that time but lost heavy interest. It just didn't seem to offer anything truly new or unique IMO and I had trouble finding characters I really was invested in.

My theory is the plan all along has been to wait for the show to finish then market the books as an alternate ending / the REAL ending.

So people who are addicted to GoT will buy in droves.

Jesus, could you imagine? Then they'd write books to shoehorn in between the existing novels.

The third book is maybe the most “fun” book I’ve ever read. I feel like every chapter ended up with a cliff hanger and I’d want to skip to that characters next chapter.

If it doesnt come out by 2020 then its never getting released. I knew he would never release it before the show ended.

They are well worth the read even if he doesnt finish. he doesnt have a flat refusal, hes done nothing but promise that they will be finished. Hard to believe him, but id definitely finish what there is so far.

I figure he’s just waiting for HBO to map out the story for him, then he’ll put it in book form with a more details and just enough changes to market it as a new ending.

He needs to knock it off with the side projects (Fire and Blood) and finish the main ASOIAF series.

I’m in the middle of the second book. Do yourself a favor...pick it up and start it. As good as “A Game of Thrones” was, “A Clash of Kings” is better.
