It's just kind of baffling. You think the guy's first priority would be finishing what is certainly the master work of his life.

The only thing that makes any sense is that he just either doesn't know how to finish it or he has totally lost interest to the point that he can't bring himself to work on it.

It's not the way I'd want to be remembered, but the dude has to make his own decisions I guess.

Why has it suddenly become vogue for authors to stall halfway through a series? Can you imagine the backlash if Tolkien had stopped after TT or Rowling after OotP?

And that's not even touching on the financial stupidity of not publishing what is a guaranteed big earner at this point in their career arc. Why not at least push it out for the payday?

These people frustrate me.

That's 900 manuscript pages, it'll be much shorter, page number wise, when it makes it to print. Did you stop reading there?

Yeah, I decided to put in a Martin effort into reading the OP.

I am very excited to learn upon what Aegon broke his fast the morning of the conquering. As well as what color doublet and breeches he wore that fateful day. I daresay I have half a hundred questions about those times.

Prediction: George is going to end up releasing the final books all at once so people can binge read them.

You're falling into the fat man's trap.

I've said that before, but I fear that it is only a fantasy.

Wasn't LOTR published all at once?

Goblet of Fire was released 3 years after Philosopher's Stone...then it was another 3 years until Order of the Phoenix.

It was, and took almost 20 years for him to write and edit it before it was published. Not exactly the best comparison.

No, it really wasn't, but the point was simply that an author should show more dedication to finishing a series. Tolkien didn't dangle anything in front of his fans for decades, and three years between a book or two of Rowling's is child's play compared to what Martin and Rothfuss are going on.

That's all I meant.

You aren't going to get any arguments on that from anyone here. Rothfuss and Martin being complete douchebags about everything has turned almost everyone against them on top of the delays.

You certainly aren't going to get any disagreement from me, I've actually been reading the Game of Thrones series for over 20 years at this point.

Order of the Phoenix was the longest book in the series and then the last two were released one every two years. 7 books in 10 years.

That was the point. 4 books in 3 years then not another one for 3 years. The fans had to wait a long time compared to the pace set early in the series.

GOF was almost as long as the other 3 combined though.

OotP was the overly long one that was the size of the first 3. GoF was long, but the length was necessary thanks to the triwazard tournament and it didn't feel stretched out. Much of OotP was pointless, even JKR admits that.

It may have been pointless but it's still one of my favorites of the series. It was a great mood shift. Definitely better than the first two. Arguably better than the last one.

I think Rothfuss looked at how much of a condescending prick Martin was being and said "hold my beer."

Then Trump drove him batshit insane.

Classic The Onion.

Though they should have done a bit more research to make it more realistic. Doesn't Martin use some archaic word processing program instead of something like Word or even WordPerfect.

Martin just put in a hard day’s work writing yesterday.

Going to need a week’s vacation to unwind.
