Buying players didn't work out great for A&M. I'm curious if Tech can make it work.
user avatar
It'll work for them because they aren't Texas A&M who turns everything shiny into a turd.

I can’t help but wonder how these kids keep that fire and desire to play in the NFL when that kind of money is thrown your way.

They don't. They no longer need to.

can't wait for a bunch of these players to flop and end up being massive wastes of money

Gee ya think???

I have watched enough episodes of Land Man to know that Texas Tech should be really good at football at some point in the NIL era.

It won’t be long before NFL players lobby to return to college.

Texas tech is gonna be a perennial top 5 team coming soon. They have openly said they will buy the best team they can and they play in a shite conference. Lubbock will host many playoff games in the next few years.

I feel for people who are just now getting turned on to college football. They missed the golden years.

And basketball and baseball. It’s all the same.

They either don't have a GM or he is an idiot. How can you value an OT at 5.1 million when you have at least 5 other positions that will command more money than a OT. They really need to look at the NFL's value by position information. QB's, WR's, DE's, DT's and CB's are all rated higher than OT for compensation demand. They will never build a roster like this.

That will go a lot farther in Lubbock than it would in Austin.
But.....for an OT?
user avatar

Right the opposite. TTU has bottomless pockets. They aren’t taking money away from skill positions to pay 5.1 for an O lineman. They can pay top dollar for an O lineman AND top dollar for skill players.

So you are talking about a 50-75 million dollar roster if they intend to overpay for an entire roster of blue-chips. They have 21 other starting positions to pay for and they will all be looking for this kind of deal.

Is Texas Tech about to become a powerhouse finally? They seem to be throwing a lot of money around.

Time to start treating them like professionals

They have been treated like pros for a long time. Live first class, Eat the best food prepared by a personal dietician, personal trainers in the best fitness centers in the country, 24 hour medical care…all at zero cost to them but “they were being taken advantage of”. As George Carlin said once, “got dam there are some stupid people out there”. Prepare for schools to start dropping sports. I can tell u for a fact it’s 50/50 whether Bama has a baseball team in 2 years. I can also tell u there is zero chance they have a team in 5 years if things stay as is. Title nine can’t be touched so men’s sports are on the block. The consensus here is kill baseball, track, golf, etc and basically keep football and basketball. Haven’t talked to anybody that has a problem with it. All universities will cut some sports. Which ones are the only question.

I agree. It's predictable, but sad. It's also pragmatic. A LOT of college sports across the country create a huge strain on AD budgets.
