Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that LSU head coach Brian Kelly is expected to name quarterback coach Joe Sloan and wide receiver coach/passing game coordinator Cortez Hankton as co-offensive coordinators.

Sloan will serve as the primary offensive play-caller, according to Zenitz.

Sloan and Hankton joined LSU's staff in 2022 when Brian Kelly was named head coach. They served as co-offensive coordinators in LSU's 35-31 bowl win over Wisconsin, replacing former OC Mike Denbrock, who is now at Notre Dame.

Excellent move by CBK ... sometimes less is more, and giving these two guys a chance to work together just feels right. I look forward to seeing our new Gunslinger offense.

Nice. Lets get the D nasty again and offense throwing up 50 points a game and make another natty run

Not a fan of this. BUT...it might be that Sloan is the real OC but had to throw Hankton a bone to keep him. Kinda like a defensive position coach being called co-DC. He ain't...but...

Oh my word! We have a “team” with “co-coordinators”. So we have two guys, who are part of a team, working together to bring the team’s offense together, and one has the final say-so. How ghastly! How will it ever be possible for them to work together? Because surely two grown men don’t know how to do that.

Yeah, this is good. Should keep both happy and provide stepping stones for them.

LSU has a history of the Co-Coordinator experiment blowing up their faces. I hope this decision wasn't made to avoid issues.

The worst kept secret, we all knew this was going to happen, but actually it had to! Any outside hire would disrupt our chemistry and so far appears the Sloan/Hankton duo are great teachers and recruiters. Hope their success continues into the future with great play calling, game planning and adjustments during games!

Self fulfilling prophecy?

Exactly what BK said before the bowl game so no change at all. Prefect call

It’s a good decision at this time. They can always change if it doesn’t work out, but to be clear, this is no way near the comparison of Co-DC of Les Miles. These coaches work well together and know what they are doing.

It is Kelly’s offense. No different than if Saban or Kirby had co defensive coordinators

Anyone who doesn’t like this. How did you like the 19 teams results?

The 2019 offense was mostly courtesy of Joe Brady.

It’s the exact same set up with different titles. We’ll be fine.

I think it’s a smart move. Right now there are a lot of coaching positions open. Let’s see who goes where and who’s available after all these positions are filled, and strike a Death Valley blow and recruit the best man available. No reason to jump the gun too soon.

Great move to promote from within an excellent offensive staff, bowl game proved co=OCs can work and u keep the chemistry developed with offensive staff intact

I just can’t think of a high success rate of co coordinators on either side of the ball anywhere in college or NFL. As a head coach you have to be able to make an actual decision. Indecision tends to result in failure.

Clemson did it for 4 years under Dabo on offense. One is now HC at Virginia. Not sure about the other. They won 2 Natty's with this approach.

Want me to name a few? Georgia, Oregon, Washington, Michigan. Does that list work for you? Need more? ‘Cause there’s a lot more.
