Interim LSU head coach Brad Davis spoke to the media on Tuesday and said that they are "working through some things" that will allow quarterback Garrett Nussmeier to play in the Texas Bowl without burning up his redshirt status.

Davis said they are working with the NCAA and they have given LSU a timeline for the decision but he did not reveal what it was.

Transfer. Don’t transfer. Play. Don’t play. Sit. Don’t sit. At this point I’m a little tired of this drama. Next one up if he decides to sit this opportunity out.

Dummy you don’t lose an entire season over one game. This May really matter in a few years when we are playing for nattys.

I like Nuss but why wouldn’t he want this spotlight right before Walker Howard comes on board?

Is this an indication that he isn’t going to play unless they grant him this extra game? He needs to realize how big of an opportunity this is for him. Redshirt or not he needs to play for his own sake and that of LSU.

No need for redshirts anymore. NCAA should allow 5 years of eligibility since average graduation is over 4.5 years. Kids play when they are needed and ready. Can go pro after 3.

If he doesn't play he needs to enter the portal right away. Would you follow a guy who could have led the team but sat it out? Then he comes back the next year and expects you to follow him as QB? I can't believe his dad would approve. Garrett has to be making the decision on his own if he doesn't play.

Why would LSU want to burn his redshirt for a meaningless bowl game?

Why even suggest he would chose not to play if given the chance to not burn his red shirt. ?

Are all the other redshirts unworthy of leadership? Dude, calm down. And delete your account.

It'll be LSU's luck that something will get fouled up, the NCAA will clear him to play without burning the RS, then come back later and say: "Oops, our bad. Sorry." And poof...he's a sophomore.

I posted on this a week ago and got downvoted to hell. It was clear to me that he doesn't want to burn his redshirt. Just be ready for him not to play unless they get their exception granted.

Is the redshirt really that important. He'll have 3 more years to play. I can understand if he was third in line. You're the only one. Sack up and play.

"You're the only one." Amazing that less than a year ago how we were all marveling at our excess of riches at the QB position.

You know, I remember back when the NCAA suspended Terrell Pryor and other Ohio state players….but agreed to let the suspension start the next season instead of the Sugar Bowl. Of course, everyone knew Pryor was leaving early. Obviously LSU is responsible for managing its roster, but their “mistake” in how they did is far less than what OSU’s was (actually violating rules).

The fact that this is an issue kinda say Nuss has 1 foot in and 1 foot out of LSU.

Then why would he care about a 5th year of eligibility?

You de realize eligibility follows you to other schools, right?

Last time LSU play in the Texas Bowl was against Patrick Mahomes I think. This is a good game just gotta find a QB.

LF7 was the best player on the field that night

He had 3 or 4 TDs and ran for 200 I think

I’d say Mahomes still was the best player on the field. Man got no blocking whatsoever and still made plays. We’ve seen what LF does with no blocking when he plays teams like Bama. What Mahomes did in that bowl game was extremely impressive. Some of y’all can’t see through wins and losses. Mahomes was the best player on the field by a mile. The problem for Texas Tech was that LSU had the next best 21 players on the field.

NCAA created this situation with their very poorly conceived transfer rule.
