LSU Football made $85 million during the 2015-2016 academic year, with a profit of more than $55 million, according to The Advocate.

Tigers football made $85 million in the 2015-16 academic year, turning a profit of more than $55 million. That’s according to two documents obtained by The Advocate: an audit of the athletic department released by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor and an NCAA financial report the school released.

In football, LSU made $3 million more in tickets sales during the 2015 season as it did 2014 because of two games, the audit says: the canceled McNeese State season opener and the relocated South Carolina game.
According to the report, LSU men's basketball made $2.3 million and baseball made $1.5 million. All other sports lost money.

"That means you can say farewell to college football next fall.”-John Bel Edwards.....riiihhggtt..

While Edwards comment was dumb, his comment had nothing to do with cashflow in the athletic department.

pump some money back into mens hoops you dumb arse buffoons. It generates revenue and that place will be packed with a quality product. short sighted on LSU's part. but yeah, lets pay out the arse for Caldwell. that is surely a return on investment

As long as we have a dumb arse buffoon for a coach, nobody is going to watch that shite show.

look here you nerdy geologist. It doesnt matter if people watch. The Basketball TV money is already allocated. By putting money back into the program I meant shelling out for a real coach.

Im interested if facility maintenance/rent/depreciation is charged to the team. If not this "profit" is largely bull shite and basically the result of a subsidy.

If this were truly a business, some 80 percent of these sports would be eliminated entirely.

That many programs losing money is normal. LSU is actually one of the only schools in the entire nation that profits froma third sport. Most schools don't profit from any, some profit only from one (mostly football), and most of the remaining have two that net a profit.

Separate entity or not. $85 million? Pay the teachers! Isn't it supposed to be student athletes? It should be athlete students. What a travesty!

The athletic department does (thanks to the profit margin of LSU football), they donate several million each year to the University.

LSU, Texas, and maybe a couple of others are the only schools in the entire nation that profit from baseball. 1.5 is very good for that sport.
