Report: SEC Leaders Discussing Extreme Measures Against LSU Over Former Pro Players

The ongoing battle between LSU and the SEC over former professional athletes returning to college could be headed toward an unprecedented escalation.

According to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, high-ranking SEC school executives are exploring several extreme measures in response to LSU's plans to add former professional players to its roster.

Those possibilities reportedly include SEC schools boycotting competition against LSU, placing the university on probation, potentially expelling LSU from the conference, and pursuing a federal legal challenge.

No such measures have been formally adopted, but the discussions highlight the growing tension between LSU and its own conference as the legal fight over player eligibility continues.

LSU is expected to add former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, while the Tigers have also been connected to other players seeking an additional season of college eligibility.

Lane Kiffin confirmed Monday that Wright, along with former Notre Dame edge rusher Junior Tuihalamaka are currently practicing with the Tigers.

The SEC currently remains blocked by a Louisiana court order from enforcing its new eligibility rules and associated penalties. A preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Baton Rouge, just two days before LSU opens the season against Clemson.

Had any of these players involved actually played in the NFL? If not the practical difference in getting a fifth year between them and those already granted a fifth year who didn’t sign a pro contract seems much ado about not much. Had they known they would be eligible likely they wouldn’t have gone into the draft. Do i understand this correctly?

There is no battle between lsu and the conference. It is numerous schools, LSU included, taking advantage of a situation while the conference fights the court on what to do about it. Whatever the results are of the ruling is how LSU will comply.

If this is try, frick the SEC. The conference sucked Bama off for years. LSU is a national brand with 2 Heisman winners the last 6 years and multiple recent national championships. We could go wherever we want.

Talk about trying to be a dictator. Greg Sankey and the other SEC directors that are having this conversation should be having it with the NCAA. They are at fault and now have to deal with the circumstances around it. The court temporary order must be followed to the law. There are so many other schools that are getting these players that did not make an NFL roster. But they hate LSU and Lane Kiffin and that’s all people hear. LSU did not initiate this.

No one, especially Coach Kiffen, has said these players will walk in and play much less start in game 1. But what if in game 4 (against the faggies) a starter goes down with an injury and maybe his current back up needs a break in the game? Sure would be nice to have an experienced player to send in the game to maybe help win it! By that time they would have been practicing with the team for 4 or 5 weeks. Who would want that if it is within the rules of the game? I bet what ever the current team Max Johnson is playing for in his 7th year, isn't whining because of all that extra experience he has at the college level.

It's bad from a cohesion standpoint of the current roster and the guys that have been playing together. This is riotous and stupid. It won't add anything, but it is putting LSU in a bad light. We had the high ground after the JD fiasco, worry about the current roster and winning games.

Why risk it if you can avoid it? LSU has a great roster without them. Game week under controversy is not a good look before a big game, LK needs to just pass this up and get his players and coaches ready for a well coached team looking to upset LSU. Keep it simple, why complicate the situation with this BS.

If you can tell me tell me how many season ending injuries we will have in game one, or better yet guarantee there will be none, then I might agree with you. Any one remember Maason Smith, who was hyped to be a potential All American a couple of years ago, who went down with a season ending injury in the 1st game of the season against Florida State? That's why you risk it.
