Four-star pass rusher Markaviest "Big Cat" Bryant recently spoke with DawgNation.com and explained why he ended up choosing Auburn over LSU on National Signing Day.

Bryant, who was a silent Georgia commit at one point, ultimately passed on LSU just because of the distance between Baton Rouge and his home state of Georgia.
quote:

If LSU was closer to home, then they’d have the name “Big Cat” Bryant on their website. He said if LSU had been only two hours away from home, then that would have been his choice. “I was inches away from signing with LSU,” he said.
quote:

“I honestly thought I was going to go to LSU,” Bryant said. “I was getting ready to sit down and sign the papers to go with LSU. Then I sat down with my Mom. We talked. When we talked, then I felt real good about Auburn.”
quote:

“LSU couldn’t have done anything better,” Bryant said. “It was great. It was just the distance. Sometimes it is good to branch off but I just felt maybe out of my comfort zone being eight-to-nine hours away at LSU. Don’t get me wrong now because if LSU was just two hours away I would be in purple-and-gold today.”
Bryant also talked about his relationship with LSU pass rusher and Georgia native Arden Key. He even mentioned the women at LSU as one of the reason's why he almost ended up in Baton Rouge.
quote:

He also loved LSU. He said that it was his best college visit. By far. Bryant said he will remember the bond he forged with Georgia pass rush import Arden Key plus another big thing.

“I’m not going to lie about this,” Bryant said. “Just be honest. Those females in Baton Rouge. Oh. my gosh. They have some nice-looking ladies at LSU.”

I remember being 4 hours away from school and feeling scared as shite the day my parents dropped me off. 6 weeks later, I was completely comfortable with my situation. It was only in hindsight that I realized how great the situation was for me. Keep in perspective that this is an 18 year old kid who has likely never spent much time away from his hometown and mommas cooking. Good luck, Markaveist.

What happens if he makes it to the pros? He could end up in Cleveland or Philly. You should spend those college years in a place you truly love.

Yep but a little advice for youngsters, if it feels right for you after all options are vacated then it probably is the right place for you. I just think after seeing this Defense under Aranda for a few years at LSU these kids will be lining up to play for him. Look what he did with beckwith and even more so with Duke Riley, then Key next year. It's already become a factory and the talent level is going up and up. That Defense is going to look extremely athletic, with Key 6'6" 260, Chassion, 6'5" 250, Anthony, 6'3" 255, Thorton, 6'4" 250. Then you have Phillips, 6'3 240, and Taylor 6'3" 240. Oh not to mention 6'1" 250 Devin White, 6'3" 230 Divinity, and 6'1" 220 Donnie Alexander. Then you have Martin and Washington as well. LSU can go heavey, or light for speed. Looks like LSU is now recruiting guys right smack in the middle to rotate at all times and could fit any role, very versital group we have coming. That kid from GA Adam Anderson 6'5" 230 is another Key like prospect. So imagine these guys all on the field at the same time? It's happening and we are not just landing a few, we are loading up which means the best of the best will get to play most snaps, which will be scary for opposing offenses. Yea I don't see an offensive line being able to handle the power/speed blend with Aranda's purposeful complex scheme being able to block this front seven. Like O said we need 1st rounders to compete with theirs, well we getting em at least on D for now!

I would be more understanding of him if this was his decision all along. Sounds like momma made the decision for him. Which really kinda irks me because he's 18, this is the first (and maybe the most important depending on how things play out) real decision he'll ever have to make. Let him make the decision himself and just be supportive of him. Sucks we missed out on the kid, we want players that want to be here and it sounds like he definitely wants to be here. Good luck, young man.

Hate missing on this kid. However, I totally understand where he's coming from. Often times we forget that for a majority of black kids, spending time away from home is somewhat new. I'm always amazed when one of my Dixie Youth Baseball teams gets to go to the State Tournament and how many of my black players have either never stayed in a hotel room or only a few nights.

Won't ever blame a kid for staying closer to home.

This makes no sense to me, does he think he has to move to BR for life? 3-4 years goes by in the blink of an eye. Then he can move right back to mommas titty, frickin pussy

Makes sense to me. No reason to call an 18 yr old a pussy just because he wants to stay closer to home.

That's what college is all about, experiencing new things, we people, new areas, it builds character, hundreds of thousands of kids go to college way further from GA to LA

So Dylan Moses and Chris Allen made good decisions to leave and "experience new things" then?

When he says he's seen better looking women walking around LSU's campus, he means it.

That sums up recruiting. A coaching staff can do everything right, and still miss out on a recruit due to circumstances beyond their control. I like the kids honesty. Not sure how his Auburn coaches and teammates will though.

I obviously respect his decision to stay close to home, but the way he talked about LSU leads me to believe that's a decision he will always question or regret.

It also didn't hurt that his HS coach got a job on Auburn's staff right before NSD...

I have lived in several parts of this country and have to say that I will never have a problem with anyone who wants to be near family...nothing is more important, IMO. I wish him nothing but the best in his career.
