I think Lane Kiffin is an excellent coach but I don't think the return on investment in a HC is what it once was. I think the Coach O model of paying a HC well to be an excellence recruiter and face of the program while rotating out really well paid coordinators every few years and spending big on NIL players is a better long-term strategy.

I think you're more likely to hold on to an HC longer that way and maintain some level of stability while always being able to afford the best coordinators and players. I'd take a strong character tier 2 coach with the best players and coordinators any day of the week.

I mean, this might not be a terrible strategy going forward. We need a competent coaching staff but dedicating a much larger ratio of funds to the roster compared to the staff going forward might make sense?
