ESPN analyst Brad Edwards joined “Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly” this week and was asked about Alabama and who he thinks can compete with the Crimson Tide this season.

His answer was LSU.

Alabama is currently beating teams by an average of 41-points this season but has not played any tough games yet. Their only win of the season over a ranked opponent was vs. No. 22 Texas A&M on September 22. The Aggies (2-2) are currently not ranked.

LSU is beating teams by an average of almost 19-points and has wins over two Top-10 teams in Auburn and Miami.

Alabama travels to Baton Rouge on Saturday, Nov. 3. Kickoff is TBD, but will likely be at night.

You must mean try and stay within 2 TDs in the 1st Qtr: ALA has outscored their opponents 124-21 in the 1st Qtr...then they get bored. If you are playing for a 2 TD moral victory you got that last year 24-10 when ALA took a knee to screw the bettors when they did not cover the spread on purpose to make it look like a Quality Win for them vs LSU who had lost to Troy "The worst thing to happen to the SEC ever" according to SABAN.

We just need to have it come down to the kicking game. But enough about Alabama. That's a full month away; Florida is their focus.

Yet ESPN says LSU cant be included in their top 10 list of those making it to Big Dance. Idiots.

Again, there isn't a dude named Jimmy ESPN out there. It's different people making different predictions.

Alabama hasnt been punched in the mouth yet. Nobody knows how tough they are including Alabama themselves.

I want to agree with you, but teams say this every year about them and this year they appear to have their best team to date.

I just want to see how Tua responds to being pressured. He hasn’t been pressured or even had to play an entire game yet this season. I’m not sure if LSU can beat them or not but they really haven’t played anyone yet to put any pressure on either side of the ball. The best team they’ve played is ATM and they put up 20 points.

A year ago it was State then Troy, all on Ed, which he first tried to blame on Canada. Then he realized he could not weasel out and finally had to admit the blowout vs State made him take over the offense. What does Ed do aside from MAGA: Make Alleva Gumbo Again. Aranda's defense quit vs State and could not stop the behemoths of Troy. Just a year ago, 2 losses, and if we had TAMU's schedule, it would be 2 losses again. This team is not beating ALA. They have the best QB in the nation, highest rating in 20 yrs, and their second string took a knee with 4 min left inside our 10. Dream on. September is not a month the CFB playoff committee will even remember in a month when they meet. Brad Edwards and ESPN are just pumping up as much interest as possible to raise revenues, pimping the fanboys. ALA has not even played past the first half in any game except vs TAMU. Don't forget LSU's Jimbo. He had Clemson, put up 500+ yds, and 400 yds vs ALA. How long has it been since LSU put 400 on ALA?

You are dodging the point here. Bama does look great and I will no deny that but are certainly untested at this point. You are bringing up the Aggie game and I'm unsure if you saw their game last weekend but they barely squeaked by Ar Kansas who lost by 4 touchdowns at home to North Texas. At some point everyone must realize that not playing a full game for eight weeks and then having to play to the wire at night in Tiger Stadium will not be easy. Dear Grapevine if we win these two games in the next two weeks I would be shocked if we did not bypass the mighty Crimson Tide for #1. Now I have my serious doubts that we can beat Bama but this team is getting better each game and the confidence just continues to grow. It will be a good one come November in Baton Rouge especially if the chips fall our way. If the Aggies had our schedule what would their record be? Certainly not 5-0. I'm willing to bet TAMU put up more yards on Bama then Arkansas. Why? Cause Bama pulled their starters. It's that simple. No starter for the Tide played all four against them and it's not hard to put a few hundred yards together against 2nd/3rd stringers. All in all what you said up here should be ignored by LSU fans that believe this team has a chance to do special things. Lots of similarities between this team and some of our greatest. Anyways off the soapbox! Geaux Tigers??

If LSU makes that 53-yard field goal that hit the crossbar and doesn't lose those two fumbles in the red zone, LSU puts up 62 points against Ole Miss last week. The same amount of points Alabama put on Ole Miss. Just saying.

But we did miss that field goal. And we did cough up two inexcusable fumbles. And they didn't. Hence the difference between a good team and a great team.
user avatar
TigerIT72 months
eman, you're an idiot. Bama has 3 fumbles lost and 1 INT in 5 games. LSU has 3 fumbles and no interceptions. Hence a great team, right?

Alabama only plays LSU and Auburn and LSU already beat Auburn so it makes sense

Depends on which Ed shows up. Uptight, micro-managing Ed, or USC Ed letting it all hang out.

People aren't giving Bama credit for Texas A&M. That's a mistake. The aggies showed they were every bit as good as Clemson (and had a real chance to win that game). Yet Alabama skull fricked them.
user avatar
WilliamTaylor2172 months
Texas A&M was at home and down by 17 in that game. They needed miracles to get it within one score. They also were 1 play away from losing to Arkansas.
user avatar
EasterEgg72 months
Is that the same A&M who barely beat the abysmal Arkansas, and same Clemson who let Syracuse take them to the wire at home? Got it.
user avatar
Tigerpride1872 months
Last weeks WIN by Texas a&m , showed us what we needed to see in deciding if there in the auburn lsu Kentucky tier...there not....you've got to hammer Arkansas to get respect because you have 2 losses already. There two good teams that beat them ,but there wins aren't impressive

I fear we will already have a loss on the books when bama comes to town. Hopefully we can break the streak though.

Yesterday, ESPN excluded LSU from CFP. Today, LSU is the only team that can give Bama a competitive game. Tomorrow, LSU is the best team in CFB. Make up your mind already.

I’m not saying I agree with ESPN, but it’s not contradictory to say LSU can give Alabama their most competitive game but still miss the playoff

UGA, UF, Auburn, TAMU? Don't get cocky. We're good, but we aren't THAT good.
user avatar

I like the attitude. It is hard to go to Auburn and get a win. It is something that the great Nick Saban has shown time and again to struggle with, especially when they are ranked in the Top 25. LSU has the potential for something special this year.
