During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, Brian Kelly was asked if he had considered sitting out quarterback Garrett Nussmeier on Saturday against Southeastern as he recovers from a torso injury.

Kelly said that Nussmeier will play, but did admit that they have had to 'dial' back practice with his injury, which may have slowed up the development of the offense.
quote:

"I think he needs to play, and Garrett wants to play; he's capable of playing," Kelly said.

"The torso injury slowed him up, and it slowed up, in some instances, the development of the offense, too, because we needed to be very careful with him. We knew we had two very difficult games with Clemson on the road and a charged-up Florida team."

"We dialed back practice, and we dialed back what we were doing to make sure that we protected him. But he's now on the other side of it because we were able to do that. This week is an opportunity for him. He's doing some things in practice that he hasn't done in the last month. So, we're pretty excited about what he can do this weekend."

It's southeastern. Play him for the first quarter and then let Van Buren get some reps. We're going to need Nuss at full health for Ole Miss

Agree. Says a lot about the guys behind him I guess.

BK wouldn't mention Nuss's injury now, unless it is completely Fine. He will play, the Playbook will be wide open, Nuss will pad his stats for the Heisman, because having a Heisman contender is good for LSU Football. BK is only mentioning his injury because it's now a Non-factor. You never mention a QB injury when it's a factor, that would be ridiculously stupid.

Yeah I can’t rationalize what goes through Kelly’s thought process 90% of the time.

If he’s playing him…then the “injury” really isn’t an injury. Otherwise he’s just an idiot.

Our fans in here.... y'all will bitch if BK doesn't play him and y'all will bitch if BK does play him.

If Nuss wants to play, let him play. Hopefully LSU has at least a 17-0 lead after the 1st, then give Van Buren the 2nd & 3rd, and let Hurley take the 4th.

Only dumb people will bitch that he doesn't play. Most rational fans would rather he sit for SELU to get ready for Ole Miss.

It's SLU.

If anything you play Nuss in the First Half only and give Van Buren some reps.
Never a bad idea to get your second guy some good work with the offense when you have a chance.
It’s not like we are protecting a Heisman season with Nuss anymore.
It’s Chanpionships or bust now.

It's a waste. Nuss needs to sit the whole game.

Smoke and mirrors. Nuss abdominal issues were his way to take heat off of him and the offense for a week.

I agree.

You idiots are too stupid to realize that the torso injury occurred in camp & Kelly & the staff have been protecting Nuss ever since it happened. The "knee injury" was a smokescreen. It was a torso injury the whole time. It's also why he was being given the rest days in camp, wasn't allowed to throw when the media as available & sat out the last two scrimmages.

Yeah at the same time he also said he should be 100% the week after the Ole Miss game. And admits it's slowing him down to play. Just rest him what the living frick

All of these armchair coaches who don’t personally know Nuss, who don’t see him practice, who haven’t seen the medicals, and who don’t know all of the above for the backups, yet who have these very strong opinions on a topic that they literally know nothing about.

So if the offense sucks this week , what’s the next excuse? Hmmm

There’s a difference between being hurt and being injured. Rub some dirt on it and get back out there. It’s football. Everybody out there playing is hurt.

This is literally what Nuss has been doing since the injury occurred in camp. The limitations at practice hasn't allowed the chemistry to build with the transfer WRs Barion Brown & Nic Anderson. Nic missed some of camp as well. It's a necessity for all those players to get live reps together heading into Ole Miss & the meat of SEC play. Nuss should be feeling better & on the back end of the injury by now. Let him play so that passing game can gain chemistry & improve.

Everyone is saying rest Nuss. No need to take the risk on SELU. If he gets hurt worse, we're screwed. Nothing to gain here. Let him get a TD, then bring in VB and Hurley

Start Van Buren Point Blank Period!

Give him this time to heal and let the backup get some reps. That would be the smart thing to do but if he’s chasing stats for his heisman race then he deserves what might happen. Dumb move all around.

I can see him being available for the first 22:30 of the game and then sitting the rest after helping put the Tigers up 35 - 0.

The only positive to playing him is that he really is on the backside of something relatively minor and they're using the opportunity to get the offense some mojo. We've already played the best dlines on our schedule.

Playing him or not won't matter. O/U on losses this season still 3.5.

Whether Nuss is injured or not, given how the offense has performed, it is a great opportunity to let Van Buren run the offense this week. There are many benefits of doing this and zero benefit if Nuss plays.

How about play him so the offense gets going.

I would sit him from practice and from this weeks game and give him a full 2 weeks to heal. If you have to be careful with him in practice and in games, then he needs to heal because he won't make it through the entire season.

Maybe take the top off a defense? Line up the speedsters and let it fly! GEAUX TIGERS!

Meh, none of the starters should play in the second half IMO. Defense too. All second string on both sides, we need to be at full health going into Ole Miss.
