Following NC State's loss to Virginia in the ACC Tournament, former LSU head coach Will Wade was asked about rumors linking him to Baton Rouge as a potential candidate for the LSU job if Matt McMahon is not retained for next season.

Here's what he had to say, per PackInsider:
quote:

Reporter (Shelby Swanson): Just a lot of talk with you, and potential position at LSU. Just wanted to see if anybody from that campus reached out to you, and just give you an opportunity to speak on that.

Wade: No, is the job open there? Huh? No, so why would, I’m not, listen, let me be very clear. I’m excited at NC State. I was hired at NC State to do a job. This wasn’t gonna take one year. I’ve already met with our administration about next year, and some of the changes that we need to make, and some of the things that we need to do to put this program where it deserves long-term. So, I’m not, you know, I’m not on social media, I’m not into gossip, I’m not into any of that sort of stuff. But look, we’re gonna win, and we’re gonna win big at NC State. And that’s what we’re gonna do. That’s what we’re gonna do moving forward. And we have the resources we need, we have what we need, and it’s on me and my staff to get the job done. And look, this year hasn’t gone exactly how we wanted it to, but we’re gonna rally, and we’re gonna work hard, and we’re gonna have a team next year that’s ready to roll.

What else is he gonna say? In fact what coach ever says anything? No coach in history said "yeah when he gets canned I'm outta here".

The entire statement was preference on the fact that the job is not open. Leaves the door wide open when that changes. Not saying he is coming or not coming, but that answer does not slam the door on the issue. LSU is going to make him say no.

LOL! You have GOT to be kidding! 1-->15) Everyone KNOWS that coaches maintain deniability. How? Because schools talk to their AGENTS for a while before the coaches even get involved 16) Every coach meets with the current administration whether they stay or not. Ask Lane Kiffin what he is going to do at Ole Miss next season. He talked with THEIR administration and still left. I don't give a shite about whether Wade comes to LSU or not as long as McMahon is fired. But he did NOT say "no". He danced around the question like every coach does.

He said no because the job is not open. Of course he has meetings with his current job.

I dont think he will leave NC State but he said nothing that could be a lie if he left.

No matter what he says, it can be read into something else. Its a no win situation. If he says I'm staying NC State for the long term, this is where I want to be.....then we would be saying "He's gone", Saban did the same thing. Although playing dumb and asking if it was open, was interesting.

Love LSU but BR is a dump compared to Raleigh. Have to write a pretty damn big check to get him back.

He is not coming back to LSU, he is the reason we are in the mess we are in now. Get a big name coach besides WW.

Anyone who thinks he’s going back to LSU probably has a tv somewhere in their home that just has Fox News on 24 hours. Like in a back room or a garage..
