Will the Athletic Dept finally come up with a policy for retiring numbers?

LSU can do whatever they want.

The fact that a lot of former players and majority of fan base are calling JD a bitch (essentially) tells you everything you need to know.

He won the Heisman which really is a team effort and now he’s making it all about himself.

He was nobody at Arizona State, now he’s nobody at LSU.

The policy is incredibly well known and has been out for 19 years.

There isn't a need for anything beyond that. Outside of #20, its up to the staff whether to hold a number out for whatever length of time.

I wish they'd just issue 20, 9, and 5 like normal and end this foolishness.

False. The jersey is retired, but the number isn't. Joe was told they probably won't issue the number again, but they reserve the right to do so

Also false. Jersey is not retired. Only retired jerseys are Cannon, Cassanova, Stovall, and Alexander. Bert Jones joins this year. That's it.

I'd prefer they come up with a policy to not promise recruits things like a jersey number.

I think you're missing the point because the whole point is they don't need to make up a policy it's their numbers their jerseys their brand and while I'm at it this is clearly no wonder why LSU didn't win a National Championship under Jayden Daniels. Selfish worried about other people crap and as much as I hate to say it do that bar stool made a good point yesterday or this morning let's not forget Brian Kelly when he realized he wasn't going to win a National Championship did everything he could to help Jayden Daniels win that Heisman anyway hell he left them in all four quarters against an absolute nobody

To have a jersey retired at LSU, an athlete must have completed intercollegiate competition for LSU a minimum of five years prior to nomination. Athletes must have demonstrated truly unusual and outstanding accomplishments, exceeding and in addition to all criteria used for Hall of Fame selection. The athletic performance must be considered unique, such as winning of a Heisman Trophy or National Player of the Year award, and should be based on the total LSU career.

Athletes may also be considered for making dramatic impact on the popularity of his or her sport or for significant participation in positive change in LSU Athletics. Nominees must have a unanimous vote of support from the Hall of Fame committee.

Under a provision of the LSU jersey retirement bylaws established Jan. 1, 2007, the retirement of an athlete’s jersey in a particular sport does not preclude a current student-athlete in that sport from wearing the jersey number in that or any other sport, subject to the discretion of the head coach.
