United States star gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from the team competition at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday...
quote:

Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles has been pulled out of the team final because of a 'mental issue' after just one event following a shock error on vault that resulted in her lowest score in years - days after she spoke out about her struggle to deal with the pressure of the Olympics.

The 24-year-old - who had been expected to lead the US to gold in the team event - was withdrawn from the lineup after flubbing her vault in the opening minutes of the team final competition in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Shortly after the dramatic error, Simone left the stadium with her trainer and was closely followed by medical staff - sparking fears that she had sustained a serious injury. ...

Her coach confirmed to reporters on the ground that the athlete has not been injured, explaining that she had been withdrawal from the final was the result of a 'mental issue', although USA Gymnastics later released a statement blaming the decision on a 'medical issue' while noting that Simone would be 'assessed for competitiveness' before the individual finals. ...

The shock error and remarkable decision to pull Simone out of the competition comes just days after the athlete opened up about her struggle to cope with the pressure of this year's Olympics.

If you can't take the pressure perhaps you shouldn't refer to yourself as tGOAT.

I never heard her call herself that. The media, on the other hand, constantly referred to her as tGOAT. I blame the media.

Can you imagine Michael Jordan not wanting to come out after halftime, Ali staying in the corner when the bell rings, and others because some shite didn't go their way and now it's "tough". Those words she said about being the oldest and showing the younger team members whats up dont look so cute. Downvote away but you NEVER QUIT!

I would say good comparisons, but Jordan didn't quit on his team but stay in for individuals competition. She showed her true colors. She's selfish.

MJ literally retired in his prime. He quit on his team just like she did.

@ystar, retiring to try something else AFTER the season ends is not quitting on the team. Jordan NEVER quit in the middle of the game, unlike some "stars" today...lebronda etc

Absolutely disappointing. She quit on herself, her team, and this country. This was embarrassing for the US.

The Olympics aren't as much fun to watch when you realize that all of these athletes have been over trained and over competed since they were 5 yrs old. They are just products of their parent's ambitions.

How about I was the "star" and I did not give it my best effort in training. Now I am not good enough so "I quit"!

There is no I in team. She is more worried about her brand. That’s why she quit.

To all those saying "that's too much pressure, hard to handle, I feel sad for her, etc"...so all that "pressure" magically disappears once she's in individuals competition??

Can't imagine putting in that level of work and self-discipline for so many years to just throw it all away by becoming a generally weak individual because 10-15% of her country has the "social justice" virus, and she has to try and fit in with the phonies.

Correct, just like every other athlete claiming something is wrong, like CRT and racism, she wants a "ME" moment to get in spotlight after the Olympics are over. Guarantee you she is a Dem, and another dumb one who let her country down at that. LOSER..............

Weren’t the media calling her the greatest gymnast ever just a few months ago? She’s no Jordan.

So she took a spot on the team to do this? Selfish. Spoiling her legacy.

Too much time on tv, social media and honeymooning with that new boyfriend. Didn’t put in the work to be great and figured she could coast through the Olympics. She found out that shite wasn’t happening.and quit n the team

I am guessing the pressure caused her to end up having a complete breakdown. Unfortunate.
