Your top 5 OVERRATED tourist destinations (US Only)

My coworkers and I travel a fair amount for work. Normally, if in a good spot, we take our families and make a vacation out of it.
What are your 5 most overrated tourist/travel destinations in the US?

Hard to think of 5 right away but one that comes to mind is Niagara Falls. Don't get me wrong, beautiful sight to see and the boat trip into it is great. But the area surrounding it is SO cheesy and such a money grab...you only need a few hours there honestly, then move on...Navy Pier in Chicago is also fairly terrible.

Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco...otherwise an interesting, cool, beautiful town. But it piles all the schlock into one focused area.

Los Angeles (I love living here, but not sure why anyone would want to vacation here)
Times Square NYC- I guess you gotta go once, but it's the worst part of our greatest city
Grand Canyon- I love natural beauty, but it just didn't do anything for me
I disagree that Vegas is overrated. It's the Mecca of gambling, alcohol, women and partying. If you're into that stuff, there's no way it's overrated. If you're not into that stuff, don't go.

Yes, add LA to the list. Vastly overrated. Nice surrounding beaches and the Griffith Observatory is cool but been twice and both times was really underwhelmed. NYC is 100 times better.

Off the top of my head - Nashville. It immediately came to mind. The others took some thought. I'm not too sure on a fifth.
1. Nashville - no brainer. No desire to go back.
2. Key West - I enjoyed it, but I was sort of over it after a couple of days.
3. Charleston - I enjoyed it and the ambiance, but I felt like I have seen and done it all in a day or two. Beautiful town.
4. Napa/Sonama - Again, I enjoyed it, but greatly enjoyed the wineries in Oregon much more.

Depends on what you do for vacation. Living in BR where we aren't much of an urban city, I tend to plan trips where I can just eat and drink my heart out and pretend I don't live in a shite hole. I travel to L.A. more than any other city for work, so I would never plan a vacation there purely because of that, but I look forward to visiting every time it gets scheduled.
You have the city/urban aspect, you have beaches nearby, you have mountains/hills, you have "touristy" spots, you have some light hiking, etc.
Like I said, though.. My vacation is basically doing the same things I do on the weekends, just in a much nicer place with much better options. There aren't many "vacationy" things I'm interested in.
I agree with whoever said Nashville. It is a nice place, but it is sprawled out and not all *that* different from being at home. It helps that I don't like country music, so Broadway St. does nothing for me.

Navy pier is def overrated as a tourist attraction but --if this makes sense-- its a cool place to go and people watch if you live there.

5. Mississippi Coast Beaches: all but one & the Barrier Island Beaches are man-made over a natural mud-flat

this is why i think LA is a great place to live, because of all the variety, a resident has so much to do and can never get bored. However, i just feel it's not a great place to visit, because we are a "jack of all trades, master of none" meaning that there are better beaches, metropolises, and hiking destinations to be found elsewhere (albeit not in one place). Generally, when i take a vacation, i want to experience the best of the best. LA really doesn't provide a "best of the best" experience in any single category.
however, based on what you said your interested in, i can completely understand why you enjoy LA.
