Santa Barbara is one of the best places I've ever visited. Just a great sleepy beach atmosphere with awesome architecture and a beautiful mountain backdrop. Rent bikes and ride around the little downtown area. Ride to the courthouse, it's awesome. Eat at Mac's Fish and Chips...dudes are straight from England and have a great shop downtown. Can't remember the name but you can walk out on the huge main pier and there are a couple of restaurants/bars you can sit and relax and have some drinks/eats. Just a great place.
Yes, add LA to the list. Vastly overrated. Nice surrounding beaches and the Griffith Observatory is cool but been twice and both times was really underwhelmed. NYC is 100 times better.

Hard to think of 5 right away but one that comes to mind is Niagara Falls. Don't get me wrong, beautiful sight to see and the boat trip into it is great. But the area surrounding it is SO cheesy and such a money grab...you only need a few hours there honestly, then move on...Navy Pier in Chicago is also fairly terrible.
Put me on the bandwagon for Nino's as best date night restaurant. It is tiny, reservation is a must. Filet medallion pasta...
Have a fence but they are chewing up a portion of the land b/t fence and water. Honestly I'd love a gator or 2, in fact we've had one every summer the last few years and I'm not opposed but it is a neighborhood with an HOA and you know how that goes, everybody freaks at a 2-3 foot gator. Also why I'm reluctant to shoot more than a pellet gun. Thought they were nocturnal as I RARELY see them but will keep a better eye out. Hate these damn things.

Had a great stay at Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana back in December...it is only about 7-8 months old.
Nutria problem
Posted by dtiger1 on 4/19/17 at 11:25 am
I live on a good sized pond in a neighborhood in Ascension that backs up to the forest. Been there nearly 4 years...but in the last year, I've been battling these things making holes in my backyard waters edge. I've got 2 traps and have tried on land and in water with sweet potatoes and carrots and can't seem to catch them, although my neighbor across the pond has trapped plenty this way and has even helped me rig. Been filling holes with quickrete which keeps them at bay for awhile then they come back. Luckily my yard slopes and my house is quite far from the waters edge. Trying to avoid spending thousands on a bulkhead. Would love to sit outside at midnight with a pellet gun but that isn't feasible. Driving me nuts, any suggestions?
Second the Iberostar Grands (we went in Mexico). Couples Swept Away in Jamaica also very solid.

We stayed at the Delta Hotel last year and went to a Jays game. It was perfect! Great hotel. You can literally walk one block and your to the Rogers Centre...which is also right next to the CN Tower and aquarium. So convenient and the restaurant at the top of the tower was excellent with incredible views.

Not sure about Cape Cod but save time for Boston Harbor as well as walking the Beacon Hill and Back Bay neighborhoods. Boston has some great neighborhoods if you venture out. Red Sox game is a must of course.
How important is net worth to you?

Is it something you focus on or maybe have certain age milestones you shoot for? Just curious of the board's opinion...
re: STAYING IN BROOKLYN VS. NYC

Ha good point! Thanks. My first visit to NYC we did most of the touristy stuff so am considering staying in Brooklyn to have a different experience. Just wanted to know if any pros/cons to staying on one side or the other if planning to visit both within a week trip. I'd prefer this trip to visit some good local neighborhoods so Brooklyn sounds great.

STAYING IN BROOKLYN VS. NYC
Posted by dtiger1 on 3/2/17 at 1:34 pm
Planning a trip to NYC later in the year but thinking about staying in Brooklyn this time. Been to NYC before but going to try Brooklyn this time and go back and forth. Any suggestions on this or recommendations on where to stay? Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestions, am a big campus/stadium guy so probably going to visit Pitt and WVU in Morgantown and maybe tour Heinz Field. Hadn't heard of Fallingwater may give that a shot.

Wife has a work conference in April so I'm tagging along and will have about 2-3 days in the city to myself. Will catch a Pirates game but any other suggestions where to go, what to do, where to eat? Will have a rental car.

Canada side. No need to stay more than a night. You will appreciate the time there and the beauty of it but only do the boat ride and if you are able, do the helicopter ride, but none of the other "stuff". It's about the most cheesy, touristy area you'll find. Almost kinda sad how cheesy it is...we planned 2 nights there on a road trip and cut that short.
Yes! Do it, it's a chilly, creepy and really cool experience.
Couples Swept Away. Done. Same thing as LSUSkip with my wife, we'd go every year if up to her.
1)Big Sur, CA
2)Dublin, Ireland
3)Paris, France
4)Anchorage & Seward, AK in summer
5)Napa Valley

If you like sushi, Jjanga is one of the best you'll fine.
Wow, not sure how I left out Santa Barbara (before LA), this is one of the most absolutely beautiful cities there is...laid back beach town with a great beach and mountains in the background, great downtown area to bike around. Even considered retiring here one day until I saw the cost of housing, yikes.
Did this with the wife in 2012, best trip of our lives. First off, go north to south SF to LA...and go ahead and extend that to San Diego and thank me later. We did I believe 10 days and it allowed us to see most of the sights and not rush too much. We planned all ourselves and what really made it fun was using the Hotel Tonight app for lodgings which pops up discounted rooms available that night that would have otherwise gone unfilled. I'm a planner so this spontaneity made it fun. We stayed in SF 3 days, 2 nights...fantastic city, one of the best. Allow time here...see the GG bridge, take the Alcatraz tour, rent a bike and ride through GG Park, go to fisherman's wharf (cheesy but seals and good chowder). Giants weren't in town but we went into the stadium, one of the best I've seen so catch a game if you can. We rented a car from there and took a side trip to Napa Valley...DO. THIS. Even if you aren't a wine lover (wife is, me not so much) the scenery and food/wine was nuts. Even did a hot air balloon ride here, highly recommend. I'm big into visiting universities so we stopped at Cal-Berkeley...super nice, even went to a Cal football game. The drive from SF to Santa Cruz was great. Stop there and go to the boardwalk. Once you start getting to the HWY 1 coast part of the drive...just leave a few days and enjoy. Hope you're not afraid of heights. Big Sur, Monterrey, Carmel...stop at all of them and just breathe it in, take pics, grab lunch. Monterrey aquarium is famous and nice but I thought crowded and overrated, however Monterrey Bay was a beautiful stroll and can even kayak out there. Make sure to stop at Carmel by the Sea and Julia Pfeiffer Burns state park, and you must do the 17 mile drive which includes Pebble Beach and the Lone Cypress. I was kinda sad when that drive was over. My regret was I wish we would've stopped and had more Malibu and Santa Monica and less L.A. These are the outer beach areas of LA. I've been to LA twice and other than the Dodgers game and the Griffith Observatory (do both), I think it sucks. Just my humble opinion that it doesn't hold a candle to NYC. Also my humble opinion, blow through LA and go another 1.5 hours to San Diego...the weather, the zoo, the beach, the fish tacos, one of my favorite cities. I'm not sure how much time you have but I'd allow no less than a week and preferably 10 days...3 days SF, 1 day Napa, 3 days HWY 1 coast, 1 day LA, 2 days SD. Hope that helps. I'm looking forward to another even more outdoorsy Cali trip that includes SF again, Sonoma, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe.

Just got back from a visit to STL. Cards game is awesome! You'll enjoy how festive Ballpark Village is before the game. Do the Bud brewery tour and visit the Cathdral Basilica, one of the most beautiful churches you'll ever see. Eat ribs at Bogarts Smokehouse! Just do it. The Arch is awesome to see but man is it a haul to get to die to construction. The zoo is awesome too but we finished only half of it b/c it was so hot! Hope that helps
Franklin BBQ. There is a line so go early. Feed your face on that meat butter.
Stayed in Comfort Suites in a corner room high up overlooking Mag Mile. I know I know, Comfort Suites, but it was seriously really nice and spacey and the bedroom was surrounded by glass. Give them a try, I was VERY pleased.
Yes! Arlington Cemetary is a MUST. We did this along with the Pentagon same day, which has a great 9/11 memorial where the plane hit there.
Ditto on Georgetown, very nice. If you're a baseball fan, the Nationals have a great park to go catch a game in summer plus they have summer shandy and some other good beers on tap. The monuments are great at night, especially when hot, although I was not forewarned how much of a hike the Jefferson monument was from everything else, but worth it. Check out the Newseum, very cool.
So is metro from airport to hotel downtown and back the way to go? I'll uber in between.

Giordano's, game at Wrigley, architecture tour, see the bean, take the wife down Magnificent Mile to shop, have a drink at Signature Lounge at the 96th (google this, awesome), Field Museum, walk the riverfront and Lincoln Park zoo...no navy pier or aquarium. Boom, done. GREAT trip and great city.
