We flew from MSY to Fresno , rented a car and drove. Rented a house in Yosemite West. Was a nice drive.

I still cant believe they didn't build all our National Parks next to the interstate.

There no "easy" way to get to these top tier National Parks. However, you must know that getting there is half the fun and in the case of Yosemite. it couldn't be more true. The drive is great once you get to some elevation. We also stayed in West Yosemite and it was once of the best trips ever.

Other options: Sacramento, Oakland, Reno/Tahoe, San Jose

But Fresno is closest

Was just there last month, but we drove a Loop from/to Colorado through Sedona, Hoover Dam, Yosemite, Tahoe.

I agree with the previous poster that flying to Fresno and renting a car is the right answer. We stayed at a vrbo north of oakhurst. Probably a 20 minute drive to the Mariposa Grove entrance and another 20-30 minutes to the Valley.

We chose Oakhurst primarily because we were traveling with our dog and spent most of out time in the Sierra National Forest.

ETA: there was a lot of news about the lines at the gates right before we were there (due to Memorial Day and the park's decision to end reservations). We only went in on weekdays and tried to get there by 8 AM. Never had more that 2 cars in front of us, but the parking lots got full at the various sites by 10-11.

Fresno is probably the closest. Don't know your plans but you HAVE to stop in the Ahwahnee and check it out. It's just incredible with the mountains surrounding it.

we flew into fresno, rented a car and drove in, it's about a two hour drive to get to the valley floor. It's insanely beautiful. Definitely drive the Tioga Pass. Stop at the Taneka Lake. It's insanely beautiful. It's an amazing drive, it's only open a couple of months of the year. Just incredible. You'll love it man. Bridevail falls is really nice, El Capitan, everything is very easily accessible. One of the most beautiful drives I've ever done.

We drove from Yosemite West to Whoa Nelli Deli in Lee Vining as a stop point for lunch and then back. Very beautiful drive, stop at the lakes.

Flew into SF a few years ago and rented a jeep. We split the trip between the SF area and Yosemite. Wanted to tour Alcatraz, visit the Golden Gate Bridge, and ride a street car. We drove up the coast for a ways and went to Muir Woods which was very cool, but we enjoyed being in Yosemite much more.

Probably won’t ever go back to SF, but it wasn’t a bad drive over to Yosemite.
