Fourth of July in Panama City in the early 90’s. Rented a huge Condo with all my boys. Everyone was is shape. We were surrounded by hot chicks. Loaded down with beer whiskey and weed.
Party was so good me and my Podna didn’t go home. Went to the Flordia keys and cut grass at Bahia Honda park for a couple months.
No worries. No responsibility’s. No cell phones. No health issues. Killer time to live.

18 days in Bali. Honeymoon, so no kids involved. Stayed at incredible villas with private pools and beautiful scenery.

Mine is Bali as well. Spent close to 2 weeks there and it was incredible. Went with my wife and some of our friends (no kids). The best mix of fun/adventure and relaxing I've ever had on a vacation. Everything is beautiful and once you get there it's so cheap. Flight is definitely the most costly part.

French Polynesia in 2016, stayed in one of those over-the-water bungaloes at the Le Méridien, which is a gorgeous resort. It was my life-long dream to surf Teahupo?o and I got my arse kicked but well worth it. Great food, great accomodations and stunning scenery everywhere you look.

There’s been a few times while traveling I was overcome with emotion and brought to tears while in the moment so I’d have to say one of those.
Hawaii, watching the sunrise at Haleakala
South Africa watching giraffe in the distance play with each other at sunset
Watching the sunset on the Santa Monica pier once we flew back into the US from ten days in the Philippines (repaying a similar trip in a few weeks)
Each one was special in a different way and while those moments were special in their own way, what they represented and the trip they were in all made them very special to me

21 day first time trip to Italy last spring …. Girlfriend was busy competing on a Netflix design show, so I took a solo jaunt through Rome, Cinque Terre, Florence, Venice, Napoli and the Almafi coast. My schedule, my plans. Age 49
Also did a 8 week se Asian trip in 2019 with my younger girlfriend … hit Vietnam, Cambodia and parts of Thailand I hadn’t traversed.

Iceland or Switzerland. Both were just the wife and I. Both are just amazing places and beautiful. Iceland is rustic natural beauty. Switzerland is refined natural beauty.
Traveled to different towns and the water and waterfalls and mountains and glaciers and everything is just amazing.
I’d highly recommend both.

Is that a house for rent in that photo?

It's kind of hard to pick because over time, they are so different...
First off, vacations as a kid are very different. As a kid, I got to take 2 weeks off of school in May and traipse all over Florida with my grandparents, who spoiled the heck out of me. That was probably the favorite trip of my childhood.
As an adult, I've taken a few short 2-3 night trips just by myself (before and even after kids), all of which were neat as you can really do whatever you want and at your own pace. Probably best among those was an extended weekend in Pittsburgh, where I played golf, saw a Pirates game, and most interesting of all to me visited a bunch of cemeteries and saw the graves of my ancestors going back to the 1700s, and saw the little town in western Pennsylvania where my paw-paw was born and lived when he was a little boy.
Then there are the family vacations as an adult, with the kids. Those have been fun, but are kind of a lot of work logistics-wise. Toddlers are different from elementary school age kids, who are different from teens, who are different from college kids, so each has had really different vibes through the years.
The first family trip to Disney when our oldest was 3 yrs. old and we were expecting #2 was nice, but I think my favorite among that category (and probably my favorite overall) was our first trip to the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle and Mt. Rainier) with just a one-year old. Lots to do and see, it was a completely new area to my wife and I; it was just a really good time.

I worry that future "major" vacations like this may always fall short of the bar that was set on this particular trip.
OMG, one of my kids pulled this in the middle of a trip to France/Spain. We took an A380 to FRA, and took a 777 on the way back. My son was disappointed the return flight only had one story (ie, no upper deck), which he announced as we were about to board. They were eight (daughter) and ten (son).
Kids are easy to amaze, even at their age, just get them to wherever you're going. They'll have fun. Food is the experience that calms them all down. Just don't do stuff like take a kid to the Louvre for most of a day that isn't interested. That kind of stuff will burn them out.
Just be warned, the Irish are criminally friendlier than seemingly anyone else in Europe. But nearly everywhere, if anyone, particularly a kid (used loosley) is interested in the food, the service, the views, the museum, the bridge, etc., then there is some French/Belgian/Dutch, etc., that is dying to appeal to them with cool stories and create a personal connection.
Finding a chocolate place, a gelato place, etc., establishes a goal even for teenagers. In Bastogne, there is a pork palace! In Barcelona, you can roll them into Las Ramblas and do nothing but eat for nine hours, a bit at a time, they'll be juuuust fine.
Flying Turkish is super convenient, inexpensive (especially in biz) and connects everywhere. Food is fantastic, and you can stay in Istanbul for free for 1-2 days and explore. Cats in Istanbul. Eastern Europe. Israel/Jordan. Japan & Korea. Yes, and? Do it all.

Glacier National Park. Stayed in a wonderful Airbnb cabin on a spring lake 15 mins from the park for 8 nights. Got up at 5:30 every single morning and drove to our hikes. Explored every bit of that park we possibly could over a week with one off day exploring Whitefish and going down to Flathead lake.
The weather was perfect every single day- clear or partly cloudy and just warm enough to hike in one layer comfortably. No smoke or wildfires.
Done hiking by 4:00 PM every day and went back to the cabin to plunge into the cold water, start a fire, grill, drink whiskey, watch the sun go down, the stars come out, then to bed with the windows open to rest for the next day.

Probably my honeymoon. We ended up pulling off that insane Maldives, Netherlands, Greece trip without a hitch.

Wife and two kids (22, 18 at the time) did a 2 week trip that start with a flight into Phoenix, then stops at Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Provo, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and ended in Denver before flying back to MSY. Beyond the obvious views and experiences, the best part was the 4 nights in Yellowstone with no cell, no wifi, and no tv. Incredible family bonding trip.

Isla Mujeres was a blast last year. We swam with whale sharks and explored the island for a few days. You can either chill on the beach or make your own adventure. We’re already thinking about when we can go back.

16 or 17 years old went to Alaska with 2 of my friends and one of their grandpa's. We went up there Halibut and Salmon fishing. At that age I hadn't really traveled anywhere so while it would still be a great trip to do again it felt even more amazing because I hadn't experienced anything or anywhere like that. Still talk about all the memories when we get the chance to hang out together 20 years later.
