We have taken our kids all over the US and Mexico.

1. Disneyland is waaaayyyy more kid friendly than Disney world. As the kids get older, WDW will slowly move ahead of DL but when they are young, DL is magical and appropriately sized for little legs to walk around.

2. Kids love cruises. As trashy as we felt, the kids loved Carnival almost as much as they loved Disney cruises.

3. They loved national parks for about 24 hours. The small kids don’t appreciate the splendor of nature and the older kids can’t handle being away from Wi-Fi for more than two days without having a breakdown.

4. Having taken them all over creation, if you ask my kids, they will tell you that their favorite vacation was tent camping at Indian Creek 20 minutes from home. If I just wanted to make my kids explode with joy, I would take them camping. That being said, I will do that when the weather warms up a little.

I would wait until they are older than 10 to hit National Parks.

My kid visited 30+ National parks and monuments before he was in the 3rd grade. The Junior ranger program is awesome for getting young kids engaged with the parks.

Get a National Parks passport book for each and start knocking them off. They’ll remember that forever and will pass these trips down to their kids

I’d probably start with ones close to where you live.

If you are in the south, Smokey Mountains NP is a good place to begin.

1. DC - Kids love DC at any age if they've never been. We live pretty close and have hosted all the cousins and scouts on trips up there. Don't forget the Air & Space Museum out near Dulles, unreal.

2. San Francisco - Golden Gate park / Japanese gardens, the bridge, Muir Woods for the big trees, sail on the bay, Giants game (bring a sweater), China Town, Fishermans Wharf, etc., etc.

3. A cruise. Book a Carnival months out and they are super cheap, and kids love them.

4. Tent camping for a week - every family needs to experience this, the good and the bad. They will never forget especially if you don't camp regularly.

We are hitting up Colorado this summer. The mountains are always special for me no matter how many times I've seen them. The rest of my family has actually never seen mountains so it's gonna be that much better. The drive will suck but I think the experience will still make it well worth it.

South Dakota was a very fun trip that we brought our kid on. We stayed in Rapid City and we still talk about it.

Things to do: Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Black Hills, Bad Lands National Park, visited Deadwood, visited Sturgis. Did a lot of smaller things like visited dinosaur park, animal safari, visited missile silos, chapel in the hills, dances with wolves movie set (ok this one was for me). Ran out of time but wanted to see Devil’s tower monument.

Definitely a very underrated part of the US and was one of our favorite family trips.

We went on huge driving vacations every year when me and my sister were kids. Been to pretty much every national park from Smokey Mountain to Yosemite. The three that stuck with me the most were Sequoia National Forest (it just felt prehistoric), Dinosaur National Monument, and Glacier. Yosemite and Yellowstone are beautiful but so crowded, especially Yosemite it was a chore to get through.
Places like Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon are cool and I loved seeing them but after about 30 minutes everyone is going to be like ok what’s next.

7 Falls in Colorado is decent. You can feed chipmunks and trout. Kids like that shite.

A pretty cool little weekend trip if you are in Louisiana is the Perot science museum in Dallas. My kids enjoyed it.

Taking our kids skiing for their first time ever over Presidents Day weekend. Will get them full day lessons the first day and then morning the next two days. I used to go skiing once or twice a year when I was a kid and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to share that with my kids….something about planning an exciting trip for your kids, makes me feel like a kid and Christmas. The excitement leading up and the joy of the event

I'd say start with what they're into or interested in and begin there. Sports, fishing, being active, theater, etc. Use their interests as the focal point then inject things you want them to experience.

I agree with this and we do it for ourselves too. Last year we went to the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce and stayed in Kanab. We aren’t a huge hiking family so I honestly wasn’t looking forward to it but we had a blast and can’t wait to go back because we made the trip our own. We flew into Phoenix and watched a Diamondbacks game, my daughter is a huge animal lover so we volunteered at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab and got to take a dog for a few hours to go walking around their grounds, we did 2 UTV tours to different locations because our youngest loved it so much, plus we were able to do some hikes throughout each park. We found that it was a nice balance between the typical hiking and things that we enjoy.

Cities that are good for family trips is San Antonio, St. Louis (go to city museum it’s amazing), San Diego, DC and of course Orlando.

Do something active with them. They dont care about the social/cultural things adults settle on.

Something active, outdoors.
