3. A cruise. Book a Carnival months out and they are super cheap, and kids love them.
They are probably ideal ages for this. I've only been on one at age 13. I hated it and was so bored, even with the kids club deal but mine I think would be perfect for that. Not a fan of cruises but probably a good fit.

Just got back from Colorado this past October. Everyone has their own preferences, but I would 100% not miss the San Juan mountains. It was unreal. I too was dreading the drive, but it ended up being the best part of the trip…seeing the change in scenery. Completely breathtaking.

The younger ones will just gorge themselves on pizza and ice cream hopefully not much puking.

My son is 10. National parks are the way to go as previously stated. We stayed in Flagstaff and hit some of the local hikes/volcanos, meteor crater, painted desert, monument valley, Grand Canyon, Zion. We also recently did Acadia in Maine which had plenty of hikes along the coast and went on a lobster boat. We haven’t decided what’s next but it’s been fun so far. Glacier is up there.

As a child of a family who travelled very little and the parent of kids who love to travel, I’d say travel as much and often as you can afford. Vary it as much as possible and see what you enjoy with them. Kids love to do different things and see different areas. Our kids loved anything we did as a family. Hiking in the mountains, beach, Disney, local trails, cheap camping trips, museums, etc.. All of the above started when mine were under 10 y/o. Enjoy!

Mackinac Island in Michigan is really unique and fun as a kid. There are no cars on the island, so you get around by walking or horse drawn carriage. Northern Michigan is pretty in the summer.

That's an incredible hotel. Stayed there a couple years ago.
Whats really cool is they specifically catered to the kids. They got special gift bags full of stuff, slippers, robes, everything. They absolutely loved it.

Would not have the response there. I've gotten some good ideas that I'll follow through with on.

Vegas, Zion, Bryce, Valley of fire, Grand Canyon combo. Rent an RV in Vegas and stay in the parks.
ETA: also Bryce Canyon > Grand Canyon

Assuming you’re in the southeast, I’d start with the Smokies and a trip to Cades Cove
Skip Cades Cove unless you enjoy sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for 5 hours looking at open fields and a few deer. The only exception to this is if you get there early and bike it before they open the road to cars.
Always book a hotel that has suites. Residence Inn, Homewood, Embassy, etc. This will save your sanity.

My dad was a truck driver, so as a kid, I got to go with him and see a lot of the country. With that in mind, my son wanted so badly to go to Wrestlemania in Hollywood. At first, I was thinking he and I could just fly out, attend and come home. But then it hit me that the family hasn't been on a legit vacation in a couple of years. So I decided to do the great American roadtrip! We rented a van in Jackson and took out. Drove across Texas and the first night we stayed in Amarillo at the Big Texan. The next night was in Flagstaff, where it snowed on us. We visited the Grand Canyon in the snow and was just awed at the sheer size of it. The next night we drove and stayed in Yuma. The following day we made it in to San Diego and went to the zoo. Completely awesome place. San Diego was probably our favorite stop, even ran in to a Trump rally, lol. The next two days were spent in L.A. Wife didn't like it as much, thought it was dirty. Attended Wrestlemania both nights and had a blast with my son as the girls went shopping. We all had a blast. 2501 miles out on the rental. Kids still talk about the trip all the time.

When you go on a road trip, give the kids a paper map and play games like betting a quarter on who can best guess your arrival time at points of interest. Or have them figure out where a good place to stop for lunch would be. Teaches them geography, math, how to read a map, etc
