I booked 2 nights at the Anchuca Inn for my wife's birthday next month.
Looking for any suggestions on sights to see, tours, and restaurants for lunch and dinner.
Thanks for any replies.

Walk over to John Houston's and get John to pick you out a good bottle of wine. It used to be an antique store where a scene from the movie Borat was filmed.

Unless you're a HUGE Civil War buff, Vicksburg is VERY boring. We went and wished we would've stayed a few more nights in Natchez.

Besides the Civil War stuff, plenty of casinos to choose from.

Visiting the casino was probably the saddest part of that trip. Vicksburg is a very poor town, and those locals spend their last dimes at those boats.

Eat at the restaurant at Anchuca one night. Lunch do walnut hills. Rusty’s is a good place to eat also

Go to the battlefield mall with Brian Kern and Morgan Nalty on The All Saints Episcopal Boarding School bus, play Galaga and then head over to Velchoffs for dinner. Wait, this isn’t 40 years ago ? Never mind.

Dinner at Rusty’s. Get a lunch at Walnut Hill.

Restaurants:
Beechwood is a good steakhouse. They also have arguably the best burger in vicksburg (the beechwood burger). Great jumbo fried shrimp. Great filet, porkchop. The bar area in the back usually has a game on as well.
Rusty’s has good seafood and steaks and is a vicksburg favorite.
Walnut hills is good for lunch (and dinner). They have excellent cakes and pies for dessert.
Cottonwood (now key city brewery) has good local beers and is known for their pizza. The patty melt there is excellent too.
The tomato place is a fruit stand on 61 south that has good sandwiches. Their fried green tomato BLT is great. They also have good smoothies (heavenly strawberry is my kids favorite.)
10 South is very unique. On the 10th floor of a building downtown and has good views of city front and Their food isn’t my favorite, but the views and the atmosphere are worth checking out if you have time.
Anchuca has a great filet.
For a drive and unique atmosphere in an old country store, head to Learned (about 30 minute drive) and eat at Gibbes (cash only). I like the lamb chop, but the ribeye is excellent too.
The vicksburg national military park is worth checking out. A large part of the park is shut down due to erosion issues, but you can still get a good sense of the battlefield. Be sure to check out the Cairo ironclad museum while there.
The old courthouse museum downtown is cool. A lot of civil war era artifacts.
There are several antebellum homes around town too (Natchez has a ton as well and you may be traveling back through there on the way to vicksburg).
You would probably enjoy the lower Mississippi River museum (across from Rusty’s downtown). They have a corps of engineers tow boat that you can tour and get to see the inside.
Coca Cola was first bottled in vicksburg and there is a museum downtown (biedenharn candy company) dedicated to this.
The river front murals at city front are worth stopping by to see. The wife may like some of the shops along the historic section (bricked section) of Washington street. Also plenty of antique stores if y’all are into that.

My grandfather bought Gray Oaks in the early 60’s, fixed it up and raised my mother in that house until she graduated high school in 1970.
Go check it out.
Go check it out.

Also have they knocked down the Confederate statues in the park yet?

I agree with this. That is an amazing exhibit.
You can also drive an hour into Louisiana and go see the Poverty Point World Heritage Site if you like history. You can take a great walk through it. The weather is perfect right now.

Do you have to drive through the entire park to get to that or is there an easier access point?
Posted on 2/8/23 at 4:37 pm to Merlin1200
Do not have to drive the whole park.

Just got back from our trip. Thanks so much for your great recommendations. We did all of them.
Some highlights: The Tomato Place was really “rustic” but good sandwiches, Rusty’s was good for dinner, dinner at Anchuca was great, lower Mississippi River museum was excellent especially the tour of the push boat, 10 South had a great view for a drink, enjoyed the battlefield along with the restored civil war warship, Coke museum was interesting.
Thanks again.

Glad you enjoyed it. For a town Vicksburg’s size, there are some decent places to eat here.
