For me it is Dinant in Belgium, place was pretty awesome. It is a small town in the Southern part of Belgium but they have a church that had a ton of history along with an armory that was part of WWI which I found interesting. I was also able to visit a second old church along with a brewery. Did some hiking, some kayaking, and mainly just relaxed while there. They also have a unique restaurant overlooking the entire town called 7 Meuses that allows you to rent out what essentially looked like a hamster ball but it came with a bed for you to sleep under the stars. Then you could walk to another area that had a bed, fridge, etc.

Montgardon, France. Population 474. Found a shortcut through this village and found this memorial to our boys in Normandy. It’s still there. These parts love Americans.

I’m not on par with you guys but I’ve traveled a good bit. One of my favorite trips was to Newburg, Oregon on a Pinot Noir trip. It was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve ever experienced. Stayed at the The Allison if anyone is interested.

I've been to El Salvador but there are some pretty good reasons it is not discussed on this board. I do not recommend.

I’m not nearly traveled as much as most here so many of the places I’ve traveled to are some of the most popular destinations. This past summer we did a trip to Germany and Italy and it was our first overseas trip ever. Of our trip Assisi was incredible. Quiet, peaceful, Holy, just amazing. If I could do it over again I would figure out how to arrange a silent retreat somewhere near the Basilica or monastery with a little spiritual direction thrown in, and I believe it would be just incredible.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah was pretty cool. The color is amazing.
The entire area of southern Utah is incredible.

Domestically - Apostle Islands in Wisconsin. It’s a cluster of 23 islands in Lake Superior. All but one are undeveloped. They have bear and deer populations, wild berries, beautiful sand beaches and a network of sea caves carved out by the wave action and freezing and thawing of the lake. Just an incredible place to kayak and camp and hike.

Internationally - the shimanami kaido in Japan. It’s a roughly 90 kilometer protected bike trail that connects two of Japan’s main islands through a series of bridges and roads that island hop across the seto inland sea. It’s probably my favorite thing I’ve done traveling.

I was coming here to suggest Japan’s inland sea. And really any of the tiny Japanese islands off the coast.

Years ago on the travel Channel I watched them talk about Put-In-Bay, OH and I've always wanted to go.

Khasab, Oman - a tiny "enclaved" part of Oman that is surrounded by water and UAE. Got there by driving from Dubai, through several other Emirates and then crossing the border. SUPER remote.

Wow, I'll have to check that out again. Went through there in '92 with a buddy and found it to be just a gray, industrial kind of city. The people looked grim. Of course that was a different time. What did you find so cool about it?

The highlight was our apartment for 10DM a night with an elevator without a door to take us up to the 10th floor. It had a little balcony we were worried might not support both of us. Was my first insight into how people lived in the eastern block during the cold war.

We went to a disco bar and were the only customers except for a not so attractive prostitute who tried to get us to pay her cover. Picture a disco with blasting music and strobe lights, completely empty. They tried to rip us off on the bill until we showed them the drink menu with the prices. Interesting experience...

Midway Atoll (Island)

Ascension Island - British island in the S. Atlantic Ocean

I’ve been wanting to share some pics of both places on here.
I’ll try to do so next week.

Also going to post some pics on the Outdoor Board of the birds on Midway and several (non-bird) species only found on Ascension.
