It really depends on the airport(s) you frequent. I've been in several airports where the normal line is shorter and just as quick as the pre-check line. But I've also been in some dreadful regular TSA lines that made me wish I had pre-check.

No I only fly for pleasure and might carry an ipad at most. Travel with the wife and two kids (7 & 10)

With pre-check you could leave the ipad in your carryon and leave your shoes and belt on, but you won't really enjoy the benefit of getting through security quicker unless your wife gets pre-check as well.

What makes your hungrier faster than standing in line at Golden Corral?

Get Global Entry for $100 and it includes TSA Pre. Worth every penny even if you don't travel a lot.

Yeah, my wife will get it as well. I think kids are exempt to age 14 as long as they are traveling with us.

Yes but who doesn't fly into big cities at some point? It's not BTR or MSY that makes it great, its when you're coming back through from Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, etc that makes it really worth it.

I recommend it. Check your credit card. Some of them will pay for it. If you tend to travel abroad, global entry is your friend.

Then it’s probably worth it. FYI, some credit cards will cover the fee.

Article on CC that pay for pre-check/global entry

Day of travel makes a difference as well. Saturday mornings at most airports are dreadful for the regular line, especially Atlanta, O'Hare, DFW, etc. Flew out of Pittsburgh last month on a Monday morning and there was no line in the regular area, and a long one in the Pre-Check.

Yes, my wife and I signed up for Pre Check. It allows us to pass through security in a minimal amount of time. You go through the metal detector and not the X Ray. However if you have something not recognized in the carry on screening progress will come to a screeching halt. My wife carried rock bookends in a large purse. TSA spent fifteen minutes waiting for somebody to screen her purse and to flag her along.

I fly a shite ton and it’s definitely worth it. The only time it sucks is when you get one of these geriatrics who haven’t flown since the 50s and get the random pre-check. They act like they’ve never been through a metal detector before. I had this one old frick try to walk through it with a pocket knife in his cargo shorts. Then goes back through again and has about $30 in change in one of his other pockets.

A couple of years ago I randomly had the pre check thing on my ticket. I didn’t even really notice it until they told me. It was great but still not sure how me and my mom got it. I was flying us to Disney so we wouldn’t have to make the drive from Houston.

Comes in handy even in airports like BTR

False, BTR is the only airport where you can arrive 40 mins before your flight and pass through security in 5 mins.

Yea I never understand how the people in the pre check line end up not knowing wtf is going on. Like they'll start taking off their shoes and unloading their entire bag.

Got mine a few years back, it's been worth every penny.

For slow times at MSY it will make no difference (ie: they may not have it manned) but it's a sheer joy when things are busy to bypass dozens of people to go almost immediately through (I think my longest wait in a Pre-Check line has been about 7 minutes and that was at JFK during a busy time).

Most of these people are the ones who get randomly selected and aren't used to using the precheck line, so they act like they would in normal security.

It’s worth it just to not have to remove shoes, belt, laptop, etc.

Lifesaver timewise out of bigger airports too.
