It's one of the very best cities in the country.

Gary Danko in Fisherman's Wharf for a world class meal
R&G Lounge in Chinatown
Tony's Slice House in North Beach (very close to Fisherman's Wharf)

Rent a bike and ride over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito

I'm there every few weeks for work.

- Plenty of good tacquerias in Mission. Also, plenty of weirdos. Few dispensaries line Mission, if you're into that.

- Noe Valley is a great neighborhood to walk around. Clean, safe and a number of boutique shops, restaurants and bars.

- Hog Island in Embarcadeo has great oysters, but a couple dozen and a couple drinks per person adds up quick.

- Favorite spots for dim sum are Good Mong Kok, China Live and City View. Couple other good Chinese spots are Z & Y and Begoni Bistro.

- If you're looking for a good lunch / sandwich, highly-recommend Lunchpad and Deli Box.

- State Bird in Fillmore is very good. Small plates, inventive dishes, sometimes can be pretty veggie forward.

- Favorite beer bars are Toronado (conveniently located next to a great Ramen spot called Iza Ramen), Crafty Fox (you'll get some weirdos walking by, so makes for good people watching), Church Key, Monk's Kettle, Beer Hall, City Beer Store (guys will give you tastings of cans they crack in shop), and Hopwater.

- I prefer to sit at the beer bars, so I haven't checked all that SF proper has to offer, but I make it a point to stop at the following: Cellarmaker (spots to sit go quickly), Barebottle (I take red eyes from SFO, so I'll stop here for an hour or two after my last meeting), Almanac (same deal as Barebottle), Black Hammer and 21st are close by (really not a fan of the atmosphere at 21st - feels like a restaurant), and Black Sands (nearby Toronado).

- Quite a few cocktail bars worth checking out in Tenderloin, but know where to walk after dark. Not the most comfortable scene.

ETA: Totally forgot about two other spots...

- Swan Oyster Depot is a great place for seafood. Cash only, very limited number of seats, but it is very, very good.

- SOMA StrEat Food Park isn't near much, but plenty of seating and around a dozen food trucks.

Good list.

I will add that Rosemunde Sausages next to Toronado is great. Its takeout only but you can bring the food into Toronado. Zeitgeist is another good beer place w/ a big scrappy outside area.

Go see some live music at Parish or Great American Music Hall.

My advice is not to spend too much time in Fisherman's Wharf or even China Town unless you like hanging out with tourists....but for a locals bar near the water front, Grumpy's is a good hangout....pretty good beer selection and food too.

The Steetcar F Line that runs down Market has a historic streetcars from other cities that SF has restored. I think they are more interesting than the classic SF streetcar.

Fisherman's Wharf area is awful, boring tourist schlock.

One very touristy thing is so worth doing: sunset at Seal Rocks...the Cliff House restaurant/bar overlooks Seal Rocks. Sip a drink, eat slightly overpriced but decent food while watching the sun set into the ocean....'snice.

I really wanted to go until I heard about human poo and syringes on the ground. Now not so much.

If I can, I'll try to avoid walking much through Tenderloin and Mid-Market, but there are so many other neighborhoods in San Francisco that are aesthetically-pleasing, lacking drug addicts and homeless people, and a joy to walk through.

It's great to visit and I almost always get good weather (knock on wood), but I have to admit that the constant need to go through SFO and ORD gets old.

I see people bringing over those sausages pretty frequently. Never had it myself, since I usually go after dinner, but looks really tasty.

Looking for an off the beaten path place in Chinatown? Try Yuet Lee. Not much on atmosphere. It looks like a brightly lit diner, but the food is very good. Authentic Chinese and not Americanized. The clay pot dishes are delicious. Then have an after dinner drink at the Li Po Lounge. This place does have atmosphere.

There's a Rosamunde at 24th and Mission with seating and a decent beer selection.

A couple blocks down is Latin America Bar. Margaritas are essentially a full glass of Tequila with a twist of lime.

We stayed at a condo on Telegraph Hill, very close to Coit Tower and there are some fabulous gardens on the hill and well worth the walk up and down the Filbert Steps to the waterfront where there were some good places for lunch.

More to do in the SF area than anywhere else in the country. You could fill a 3 week's worth list of things to do, if you had the time and jack.

Cracked Pepper crab at R&G is legit. I just wish they could do it for soft shell.

There is a hidden seafood restaurant in Fisherman’s Warth were the locals go called Soma’s. You have to really look for it to find it. Old school San Francisco.

If you want the best Asian food, don't go to Chinatown. Instead, go to the Richmond district. It's a really cool little neighborhood near the park with tons of great, authentic places. Burma Superstar is fantastic. The Arguello Market has fantastic sandwhichs for lunch.
