I posted a few weeks ago ( LINK) about taking a summer trip. At that point, we were looking at going to Myrtle Beach. I think we have changed our mind and looking to head down to Panama City Beach or Destin, anyone ever heard of them I went to PCB when I was in High School but haven't been back, i've heard it's pretty nice now, kind of like Destin was when I was in HS (mid-90s). What i'm looking for is more of a resort feel, where they have a nice pool and then a bar/restaurant at the pool would be ideal. Looking at tripadvisor and other places, looks like Holiday Inn has a pretty badass pool area. Don't mind staying in a condo that I can find on AirBNB/VRBO if anyone has recommendations for condo buildings.

Thanks for any advice.

Haven’t stayed there but have heard the Holiday Inn vacation club resort in Ft. Walton is nice. Might want to check out the Holiday Inn, Margaritaville, or Hilton at Pensacola Beach. Should be able to walk to Flounders from those.

Hilton Sandestin Resort is nice
Just know that it’s going to be expensive in the summer and the beach area will be crowded

Used to go to an annual conference at the Baypoint Resort in Panama City. As the name suggests, it's on the bay, not the beach. But the pools there were nice, and it had a really nice golf course. Don't remember the pools having a restaurant or bar, but I think one did. Food was mediocre, at best, but it was around 2005 the last time I was there.

Destin has the Sandestin and The Henderson. Never been to The Henderson, but have heard good things. Sandestin is okay, but gets really crowded.

Sandestin Resort is awesome...but the Destin/PCB area has grown so fast, the infrastructure can't handle it anymore. Beaches will be crowded, and traffic will be a nightmare. Take how long you think it will take to get somewhere...triple that, and you will still be underestimating traffic.

You really should list the budget OP, and I don't know what the Hilton Sandestin costs these days but that's your best option for what you are looking for.

There's quite a few condos though now with on site bars, huge pools, and walking distance to multiple restaurants.

Also, any kids in the picture? Back before we had any, we preferred to stay at a resort. These days with 3 kids, I prefer a condo, or at least a microwave and fridge in the hotel room. If you're not set on Florida/beaches, and have kids, the Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama is great. Large resort pool, poolside bar and grill, and waiter service to your chairs. Bikes/kayaks etc to use on the property and in the bay. We usually take a 3-4 night trip there at the end of every summer. And if you don't have kids, there's an adults only pool which is nice. The wife and I went down for a couple of nights a few years back without the kids, and it was great. Also a pretty nice spa if your wife likes that type of thing.

In-laws used to have a place at Edgewater in PC and it might be what you are looking for. They have condos beach side and across the street on the golf course side(overpass to walk over or there are golf carts that will bring you). Huge resort pool overlooking the beach with a restaurant/bar. Some condos haven’t been updated in forever though so you might have to dig to find an updated one.

Sounds a lot like the Destin West Resort in Ft. Walton Beach. There is a bay side with nice pools, lazy rivers, and hot tubs. A little of that on the beach side. Last time I went the guest could use the bar next door at the hotel that was in a grotto under a waterfall.

Tops’l has been having a problem with people renting the unit and packing 10+ people in them.

We like to rent a cottage in the Sandestin neighborhood. Most of them have a golf cart that you can ride to the beach, “downtown”, or to the shopping area.

None I would stay at.

Nice Florida is SW or SE. Sanibel and Captiva are very nice. So is Ft. Lauderdale or Jupiter. St. Pete Beach is wonderful. Long Boat key is very nice. Clearwater is ok and can be nice. Upper keys are great. Nature Coast is great for fishing and boating, kayaking, tubing. Very laidback. Great golf. JAX area has some acceptable places, but not at all tropical. Panhandle is not Florida. South Alabama. No. Just, no.

Margaritaville Pensacola beach, excellent hotel, food, pool, other amenities. Beach is never crowded, roughly a 1/2 mile to the nearest public beach area to the east, about s 1/4 mile to the nearest building to the west, do little beach traffic. We stay there at least twice a year, probably 20 times so far, usually stay 4-5 nights We usually park the car, and rarely leave the hotel grounds, but sometimes will walk to the boardwalk, about 1/2 mile and hit a bar or restaurant. Since Cobid they have some problems with staffing and food service, but the inconvenience is not enough to keep us away.
