I prefer multiple smaller trips. I like having something to always look forward to, and partying/drinking and eating "vacation food" for a week or two straight can get to be a bit much.

Good question
I agree with the other commenter below that spending my money now and taking longer vacations
, I enjoy three day weekends but I generally spend them at home, relaxing around the house or going to the beach, lucky enough to live in Clearwater.
I find that actually being away for 10 or more days completely disconnected from work once a year is fantastic
I try to do it twice a year if I can. I’m also fortunate enough to travel to Japan for work so I tend to add on a couple of days to work trips.

Alternate.
Once year fewer but bigger trips and the following, more smaller trips.

This year a combination of both. A short 5 day trip to Dallas/OKC/St Louis to visit family and friends. 10 days to GA/FL for a wedding and vacation. Long 3 weeks to CA to visit national parks. Short 5 days to Shenandoah NP/Richmond. Just got back from 2 1/2 weeks in Washington/Canada. Another 2-3 weeks destination unknown in late October/November. Possible solo trip to Singapore/Thailand/Laos November/December. Then BR for Christmas.
Next year GF wants to travel internationally , Yellowstone, and Alaska. Maybe a (short) Viking cruise. I'm not a cruise person. I need to start working on trips soon.
I'm at the point in life where I will travel until I run out of money or my health determines I cannot travel. I don't want to do the bus tours where you do sightseeing out the window.

What is your preference? One trip in the $8-10k range or multiple $2,500 trips each year?
I usually do both. Couple extended weekends in the US where I try to catch a baseball game or other sporting event. I also usually do somewhere outside the US for a beach trip but that’s usually my presidents club trip and just extend the trip to about a week.

Guess it'd depend on your age, with/without kids, budgets.
We've been doing 1-2 "Big Trips" per year. Of course, we're retired now and can afford it and trying to get the "big" European type trips out of the way before we can't travel.
I'll tell ya though, despite the freedoms of being able to do this, 2-3 weeks is my max. I start missing my routine, watching things like football games etc. And I miss the "why don't we just steal away" trips to places like the mountains of North Carolinas or Georgia. Feel like we're not taking advantage of that enought in lieu of "the big trips".
