The wife(no pics) and I are traveling to London and Dublin. Will be there the first week of September. Spending most of the time in London, with 2 days in Dublin. The only thing booked for sure is a tour of Guinness. It will be the first time for both of us. Wondering what are some things we should definitely do, see, eat etc, and what things to avoid. Will be 9 day trip. Any and all advice and tips appreciated.
TIA
TIA

Trinity College Library in Dublin
And we enjoyed the Jameson Distillery way more than Guinness

Dublin could honestly be done in a day.
We visited the Guinnes factory and had a few good meals.
Trinity College Library was nice, was very underwhelmed by the Book of Kells.
One place was called The Bank- a great atmosphere and good food. On the way to Guinnes we stopped at a cafe called Queen of Tarts.
Walk the Temple Bar area in the evening, kind of like a smaller cleaner version of Bourbon Street.

Teeling Distillery tour was great. A functional/working distillery beats a tourist trap one every day. That said, the Guinness Brewery was good for the beers at the top floor bar.

Spend more time in Ireland than London.
But if plans are set then go to the Dublin prison, Jameson, Irish whiskey museum, temple bar, brazen head.
Take a day trip to Kilkenny. Kilkenny castle. Smithwicks. Kytelers Inn.
Pub hop.

London.
Have said this several times on here and it is a great hack. Go see the Tower of London. To me, coolest thing in town. Here is the hack, tickets are bought in time blocks to keep crowding down. Buy in advance for THE FIRST TIME BLOCK OF THE DAY. Show up an hour before opening with a coffee and pastry and get in line. The second they open the gate, this is critical, haul arse straight to the back of the grounds to the Crown Jewels.
Don't stop to talk, to read, to look at anything. Just get back there. We did this and walked right in to see the display unimpeded. There were so few people in there that we went through twice. By the time we came out, there was a 90 minute wait line that makes a Walt Disney ride look tame. Once you see the jewels, now go back to the front and see the rest of the grounds or take one of the guided tours.

My two cents...
Dublin
If you are doing the Guinness Tour, upgrade and do the CONNOISSEUR EXPERIENCE where you get to pour a pint and hear stories about Guinness, Stout, etc...
Kilmainham Gaol
Christchurch - do the crypt
St. Stephens Green - a beautiful park to walk thru
Pubs on Lower Baggot that I love...Toners (my favorite) and Doheny and Nesbitt (usually easier to find a seat here), and if you go to Upper Baggott...Searsons is terrific for pub food
Depending on when in September, the rugby world cup will be going on and the pubs in Dublin (Slatterys near the stadium will be greate) will be great fun and same in London.
For London, I always recommend the Churchill War Rooms...just terrific

Man, back in the day, that was included with the standard ticket.
I would avoid Temple Bar, it was kind of fratty when I went during the day, and seemed kind of like Times Square. There were a couple of druggy beggars, but I've heard it's gotten worse north of the Liffey in the city center.
Go to the GPO (General Post Office) so you can check the box. If you have the funds or Marriott points, stay at the Shelbourne, and in a "named" suite if you can. The wife will be grateful to you.

Are you into history at all? I am and really enjoyed Tower of London Then walk across tower bridge and grab some food at one of many restaurants. HMS Belfast is right there which I found really cool. After hit the Shard for some city views and a drink at one of their bars. That’s all within walking distance if the weather agrees.

Not well though, nor could Dublin.
Kilmainham Gaol & Glasnevin Cemetery are must-sees.
Dublin Castle as well.

Vintage Cocktail Club is a great spot to grab a drink downtown in Dublin. Get reservations, it's a speakeasy cocktail bar, fantastic spot in temple bar area.
Hotel recommendation Stautons On The Green in Dublin. Hotel right off of St. Stephens Park. 2–3-minute walk to Grafton Street (must see /shopping). Walking distance to everything you'll want to visit and see in 2 days there. Hotel also has a fantastic breakfast.
If you've booked and are interested in Guinness. Jameson is also in Dublin and was a fun experience and tour. Also both walking distances from the recommended hotel

If you want something a little off the wall in Dublin take the DART (train) about an hour south to Bray, get out, and walk the short 7 km cliff trail to Greystones. Then eat at The Happy Pear and hop on the train 3 minutes away and go back to Dublin. You'll get sun and see the beautiful coastline on a nice leisurely walk.
I stayed at The Shelbourne and it was lovely. I recommend the Jameson tour if you like Irish whisky.
