What are some of your favorite lesser-known NYC attractions? Obviously we'll do the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Bldg, yada yada yada. Bonus points for off the radar restaurants as well.

Go to night court (not as a defendant). Fun as hell.

The Cloisters in Ft Tyron Park. Very cool spot. Great museum. And great view of the Hudson.

+1 on the Cloisters
the Tenement Museum on the lower East side LINK, which showcases life when the LES was the most densely settled place on earth. Requires a guided tour, so you've got to book it.
Big Onion does a great Multi Ethnic Eating Tour of the LES--you learn about the waves of immigration to NYC and make stops along the walking tour to taste things from the various ethnicities (Italian, eastern European Jewish, Chinese, etc) LINK
Some of my favorite NYC things aren't tourist attractions, but rather food/shopping experiences:
Kalustyan's, for an incredible array of spices & dry ingredients from all over the world; LINK
The Union Square Greenmarket; LINK
La Boite a Epices in Hell's Kitchen; LINK

Download the Juno app, much better fares than Uber and lyft. A few weeks ago I got from west village to LGA for $25 on a Monday afternoon. You get 30% off your first few rides and it’s already cheaper than the others.

I'm fond of walking the Highline to Chelsea Market and the Whitney Art Museum...

I love the 2.5 hour full island Circle Line Tour.
Grand Central Oyster bar has excellent Manhattan clam chowder.
St. Patrick's Cathedral is a cool stop.

Lombardi’s Pizza. It’s the first pizzeria in America.

Grant’s Tomb. I took the train up north of Central Park, walked through Columbia University area, and visited the tomb. There is a small ranger station with a short film. I was the only viewer on a Tuesday morning. The tomb itself is open only on even hours or something like that, so verify that and time it right. It has some busts of his famous generals, map of major battles, and the like. Definitely an adult stop. Kids would be bored to tears.
The ranger lady tipped me that the Grange, Alexander Hamilton’s country home, was nearby in Harlem. I rode the bus there and watched another film. There were quite a few people there. The play has stirred interest. Not a must do at all. Just something different.
Go to Turntable Chicken Jazz in Koreatown and enjoy some damned fine fried chicken while listening to jazz on the turntable. This KFC is great.
Buy the wife a knockoff Louis Vuitton or other designer bag in Chinatown. Watch for the ladies on the sidewalk with a shoulder strap across their chest. They are the dealers. Show them a pic on your phone of what you want. They’ll go, or send a runner, to fetch it from their stash. Negotiate on the price. They’ll come way off the initial ask.

I actually enjoyed the free tour at the New York Public Library.

Yes to the library tour....plus, if the weathers nice, you can have lunch in Bryant Park behind the library. There are a couple of food kiosks or try the Eric Kayser bakery across the street on 40th. Or walk to Grand Central for oysters at the Oyster Bar if too cold or raining: LINK

No offense, but the Statue of Liberty is the biggest waste of time especially for the wait.
You can see it from across the water and that was enough for me.
