Anyone ever been? I want to surprise my woman with a little mini trip and we really like HGTV's hometown. We'll also probably go check out Oxford and Starkville since neither of us have been before. Looking for any recommendations.

Years ago for a wedding. Joey Lauren Adams and Parker Posey were there.

Laurel was kind of a shithole back then. Hattiesburg is close by and was much nicer. This was 20 or so years ago though, so things may have changed.

You'll cover everything in a day. The pizza place around the corner from the TV show place is legit.

I can't think of anything interesting to see or do there.
It's bad when I can name at least five other towns in MS that I would rather spend a few nights in than Laurel.

Yep. Only place in the world where I have ever been robbed. Gas station just off I-59. At gunpoint.

They caught the kid the next day, he did time.

We like the show as well knocked the tour of the town out in 30 minutes. Sweet Somethings bakery has good buttermilk pie. There are a few murals and some nice antebellum homes. Worth stopping from point A to B but not a destination.

They have one of the coolest looking old high school football stadiums you will ever see there.

The only stuff unique there I think would be related to the show.

I think they did a place called Bird Dog that you could eat breakfast at, then stop by their downtown store and the man’s woodwork shop is near that as well.

Oxford will be pretty far from Laurel. Probably 4ish hours. You could get to Mobile, Biloxi or Gulfport significantly faster from Laurel if you wanted to tie in a beach stop.

Mimos is a really good restaurant if you have to stop in laurel, but I'd suggest that you continue driving through the town without stopping. The sewerage facilities next to interstate tend to dominate the town and ruin your trip.

Continue about 30 minutes and make a stop off the interstate in Enterprise and stop in at Long's fish camp.
