any recommendations for kid friendly hiking trails near gatlinburg? Kids ranging from 4 to 10. Looking for some that pass near streams or water falls that the kids can play in to cool off.

Thanks!

Grotto falls is probably a bit shorter and easier than Rainbow Falls

Depending on how long y’all are there. A drive over to sliding rock is worth it at that age!

I like Laurel Falls but Deep Creek is better for kids

The Sinks is pretty cool but not really much of a hiking trail

Abrams Falls in Cades Cove, if the 4 year old can handle much (or you are OK with carrying partway).

Chimneys might be tough for a 4 years old but it’s a hike I enjoy

Start with the Gatlinburg trail which is at the end of town. Then try the ones by the visitor center. That’ll tell you what they like and if they can handle more. Next is Laurel Falls. I’d do the Roaring Fork Motor Trail and do some of those hikes along the way even if you don’t go the whole way.

Grotto falls is great and not as crowded as Laurel falls and three aren't as many steep drops.

Go to alltrails.com. They have most trails mapped and rated with pictures.

We have age 7 and 10, and are planning to do Laurel Falls early in the morning, and Cataract Falls later in the day.

I don't get the impression from my readings that either are ones the kids can really play in.

Abrahms in Cades Cove. Great swimming spot. Go early and see the deer and beat the crowds

I second the Chimney tops. It’s probably the best all around hike in Tennessee.
Your four year old can play at the bottom. Beautiful streams.

We did Grotto last year with a three year old. She did great on it. It’s a good trail for youngsters.

Drive through Roaring Fork Motor Trail...kids will see a ton of waterfalls. Then you can take them on a short hike to Rainbow Falls (just over 2.5 miles).

Don’t forget to go to Clingman’s dome. I took my kids there for sunrise one morning and they loved it.

This may sound like a dumb question, but are there any wheelchair accessible “hiking” trails?

We have a group going and one child is in a wheelchair but we’d like to see some decent natural sites.

Y’all can take turns pushing the kid all the way up clingmans dome. It’s paved.
Make sure you have 3 or more volunteers!

Yes. You can go to the Smoky Mountain Park Website and get books on the various hiking trails in the park. The books will describe the trails, rate the difficulty of the hikes, and let you know which ones are wheelchair accessible.

Clingman’s dome is paved the whole way but it is somewhat steep. My guess is that it would be considered wheelchair accessible but I’m not certain.
