You seem like you have a good handle on crested Butte.
Me and the wife are going there in January, it’s just going to be us so we are looking to do some couples stuff like dog sledding, snowmobiling, things like that.
Any suggestions for romantic hotels would also be very much welcomed

We’ve been to both places. Create Butte for sure.

We were in the same situation when we started skiing as we learned at Copper and went to Keystone the next year. We felt very bored with Keystone because Schoolmarm was one of the only runs we could do at the time.
Breck would have a lot more to offer a beginner family. If you really want to open your wallet up a little more then Beaver Creek has a lot of beginner terrain.

Crested Butte over Keystone all day every day. Keystone isn’t really a town. The mountain and village are all that’s there.

Don't really know about romantic lodging, since I always have my entire family (mostly adults now) with me, but WestWall Lodge is very nice.
Favorite restaurants:
Soupcon - very small romantic French restaurant
Slogar - not really romantic, but great home cooked meals and one of our favorites,
Marchitelli's Gourmet Noodle - romantic Italian restaurant,
Secret Stash - not romantic, but a classic hippy pizza joint on Elk Avenue
Wooden Nickel - not romantic, a little loud, bar scene, but good food. We've been going to all of these restaurants for over 30 years.
Some people like Elk Avenue Prime, but we haven't eaten there.
For outdoor activities, we normlly just ski during the winter. However, we have taken several snowmobile rides to Lake Erwin and up to the mines. We haven't tried dog sledding, but friends have said it was fun. We have riden horses during the summer, but I've heard that winter horseback riding is great in CB.
I hope I've given you enough information for a great trip. Enjoy.

would also consider Steamboat. great town and cool mountain. Fly into Hayden and shuttle to town

I agree with Waco Tiger on the eatery rec's. Wooden Nikel used to have lobster night that was always a hit with my crowd and not very $$. Have fun and keep your ski's pointed down hill!

Keystone is great, but it's always been a Colorado centric spot for people who go up the hill and down the hill on the same day. Copper or Vail were always my favorites for same. I was never a fan of Crusty Butt.

How can you even put Copper Mtn. and Crested Butte in the same sentence. Not even close. Copper is an I-70 view ski resort with limited runs and Crested Butte is a gorgeous mountain village with runs for all levels of skiers. Now, Vail, is on another level, but with the Denver I-70 traffic to CM and Vail, I would pick Crested Butte any day of the week (well, maybe not over the back bowls in Vail).

I said for people who go up and down the mountain, front range people, Coloradans. Copper is a great day ski, easy in and out, great accessible runs, usually well groomed, good scenery. It is the most underrated skiing in Colorado and consistently more highly ranked that CB. It’s much much better than CB for green/ blue runs.
Crusty Butt is a 6 hour drive from Denver on a snowy day. It’s also great for black runs/ expert skiers but definitely not great for beginners. And if I’m flying in from Texas I’m not choosing CB either, I’d go somewhere closer to DIA like Vail, Breck, etc.
But go ahead and look at the rankings yourself; Peak Rankins has CB at eleven and Copper at 6.
Also a shout out for underrated Keystone and Winter Park ( especially for beginners).

I'm not getting into a pissing match or telling people what they should like, but Copper is almost twice the size of CB.

Something underrated imo is when you go. If you are going mid week being closer to Denver is fine. If you are going for a long weekend, getting away from Denver is better. Personally I wouldn’t enjoy skiing close to Denver on the weekends especially with fresh snow.
Epic pass- I’m not very knowledgeable here, but if you are renting a car and going for more than 2 days and buying an Epic pass then I’m not sure why someone wouldn’t considering hitting up multiple mountains

I just wanted to reiterate... CB is the best.

I’ve been to both, and while Crested Butte is overall a better experience when you factor in the ski terrain and town, Keystone caters more to the beginner by making things easier, like flying into Denver instead of Gunnison, more learning areas, etc. Plus Keystone host LSU spring break and has a Rotolo’s, so it seems that there’s something about it that draws other Louisianans

Crested Butte is great and the town is truly awesome. "The last great mountain town" ... or something like that. However, I get bored of CB after 3 days of skiing. Frankly, you can hit the entire mountain in 2 days if you ski 9 -4p.
The skiable terrain is dwarfed by Vail, Breck and Copper.
I loathe the town / fabricated villages in Copper but based on terrain alone it is certainly top 3 in the entire continental U.S.

I like Copper a lot more than CB too. I could ski there every day the rest of my life and never get bored.

What sort of terrain do you find missing at Copper? There's a lot of mountain to explore.
The town experience is worlds better at CB and thats a hell of a mountain to ski. I agree the two dont compare well to one another but the limited terrain criticism doesnt ring true.

I've skied probably 40 different mountains, I have never felt like Copper had limited terrian. It isn't Kicking Horse or Jackson Hole but few resorts are like that. It has the best layout of any resort I have skied, is easy to get to and is overall a very well rounded mountain.
CB has better steeps and a real ski town by it, it is a great a place as well.
