The funny thing is that I routinely see American selling fares with connection times of like 30 or 40 minutes. I'm an in-shape guy who can move fast, but I feel that is really cutting it in CLT.

Yeah. IF, if you land timely and are a gate or two away 30 minutes is doable.

It seems the industry has learned (the hard way) a lesson. My last 10 or 15 flights I have landed early. Not by a lot but 10-15 minutes early. Nice cushion.

The last 3 times I came home into MSY from CLT, I landed in the B6ish area and had to go to E 34 or 36 I think. It was over by the end of E.

AA only operates 737s and A320s from CLT to MSY so your flight could not have left out of the E gates. Now you might have arrived on a regional jet (ERJ or CRJ) into E and left B but definitely didn't depart from E.

Either way, the walk from the end of E to the end of B is about 15-20 minutes.

Should be fine. I've never had a connection not be delayed leaving Charlotte.

I hate that airport and avoid it at all costs (figuratively and literally)

Fly all the time but 99% direct.
I don't envy many things, but that statement makes me envious.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the taxi time at CLT. There have been numerous times that the plane I was on taxied for 20-30 minutes. It's like they landed in the suburbs and took the highway to the airport. For a time, the Amex app would let you check into the Centurion lounge 30 minutes early. I'd check in when we landed. Multiple times, I was unable to get to the lounge in 30 minutes from wheels down. That is crazy to me.

I never book a layover for less than an hour there. I prefer to sit in the lounge for a bit anyway.

Also, someone made a great point about customs. Even with Global Pass, the customs process, including claiming bags and security screening, can be slow. Give yourself plenty of time.

Like I said, even most of my international flights are direct out of dfw, but I did connect international back into LAX in January and the recheck of my bags was done by airport staff, you just left them and they put them on the next plane. I didn’t have to claim my bag and recheck it at the main gate, but I’m sure that’s different everywhere.

I have precheck and the customs app so I’m set up to be as efficient as possible, but it seems like it’s going to be really close. If they get us there a few minutes early, that gives me roughly 90 minutes which seems doable, but if we’re late I’m seemingly screwed

One thing I would suggest is if you see you're delayed on the way out or back, I think there's one nonstop AA flight from DFW-PUJ. Should be able to switch to that one for free with a delay

And there's tons of other flights to Philly, Miami, etc on AA so you have options getting out of you see the delay

Yeah, as long as I make it back to CLT or know to change before leaving, I know I’ll be good. Getting back to DFW is no problem, there’s a million options. Ideally I would get home before 10pm on a Sunday night, but if I can’t, I can’t.

I flew direct last year, but there’s nothing available, not sure why

Yes, you are correct. I just looked at my screen shots. We arrived in January from South bend into E16 and left out of A7. I had it opposite. It was A not B.

I'm not saying the runway is a long way from the terminal but...on two different occasions I've seen a bald eagle flying by as we taxi in.

There are many reasons why you can't, but CLT is heavily banked and set up as a connecting hub. On the outbound you shouldn't have any issues aside from weather to worry about depending on the time of year you're flying. For the return, Charlotte doesn't see a ton of international traffic relative to it's size. If you have some of the transatlantic wide bodies in just ahead of you it may back up though.

Since you're connecting on to Dallas you should be fine as American runs a flight almost every hour CLT-DFW. Assuming a longer layover is price prohibitive for you, if the flight is far enough out you can book and hope for a schedule change which would allow them to reticket you.

If you are checking luggage, you're not going to make your connection on the way back. If you aren't checking luggage and you don't have Global Entry, you'll be cutting it very close. If you aren't checking luggage and you do have Global Entry, you'll probably be ok.

The layover in ATL is 43 minutes. Delta has an earlier flight about of BTR, and I'm thinking of moving departure back to then. Even though we will already be inside the system by that point, I'm just nervous that 43 minutes is cutting it too closely.

I got no problem with a 43 minute connection and did it every now and the but before a flight to Europe that would stress me out a bit too much. I'd do the earlier flight if possible
