Agree. ATL’s linear layout is great, although it’s much better for connections than O/D; DFW wins the prize for that.

It sucks. When you fly back to the states from overseas and land there, you learn very quickly how bad the airport sucks and the workers there are terrible.

I've never landed anywhere in the US after being overseas and had any thought other than "thank God I'm back." I could deplane in Bogalusa or Wiggins and I'd still feel like kissing the ground pontiff-style the minute I got off the plane.

Be more specific. There are two that go into NYC alone. Three if you want to count Newark.

Detroit has a very nice airport so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

I like to walk, so I always like flying through Atlanta, plenty of places to eat too, but haven’t flown through there in about 15 years.

I have to agree. While airports are not a place you want to be at very long, ATL is pretty efficient, especially connecting through.

Note: ATL is the busiest airport on the planet....includes number of flights and number of people flown daily.

San Francisco is by far the worst major airport I've been to.

How to tell us you don't travel, without telling us you don't travel.

IAH and ORD are generations better than ATL. I agree with OP, ATL is a terrible airport.

Atlanta was literally a peach and I used to love visiting it for bowl games and I just had nothing but good times there. What happened?

Nothing. Atlanta is not so bad, nor is BWI. Now Dulles sucks.

Ronald Reagan Intl is the worst I’ve been too. Atlanta is one of my favorites.

ETA: EWR is pretty bad as well

These are three of the top 10 airports in the country

To me, its highly variable based on what terminal you are flying out of. For example, at Dulles, A/B are excellent and the train goes straight there, but if you fly out of C/D it is a nightmare.

Miami seems to be a universal clusterfrick. Ohare is horribly designed too with the gates too small, making people spill out into the hallways while boarding.

Coddled ?

Flying these days is one of the most miserable experiences a person can have.. from arriving two hours early to get thru security, to boarding, to (and i said this long before Covid) sitting in an enclosed tube full of people coughing up their nasty-arse germs.. to having multiple crying babies on board most times i fly… to trying to squeeze into the ever-shrinking seats (I walk around at about 192-197 lbs at 6’2”, so not obese).. i didnt even mention having delays, which seems to happen over half the time.. if wanting to be less miserable makes me ‘coddled’, then im guilty as charged.

KC really got the shaft on that. MCI was designed in the era before any form of airport security with the idea that you’ll could move from car to gate in just a couple of minutes, and built to entice TWA to operate a hub there.

Shortly after opening, the hijackings of the 70s occurred, the first generation of airport security was implemented, and MCI suddenly became horribly inconvenient. TWA’s hub didn’t last very long.

Each terminal at IAH has a dramatically different layout and requires FAR too much walking. I’m not looking for a great mall experience—I just want to get around easily and it fails in that regard.

My few experiences at ORD have been that employees are actively trying to make your experience as unpleasant as possible (much like EWR).

Delta lounges at Delta hubs are like being in a zoo. I stick with Priority Pass.

Atlanta isn't bad, I'd put it at middle of the road for US airports. EWR, ORD, LGA pre-renovation, MIA, and LAX are all much worse. DFW can be bad if you land on the far runway and need to taxi across the airport.

Various dislikes of mine within specific airports-

Denver- Connecting on United could be what feels like miles of walking within the same terminal

Salt Lake- I've heard the new walk from Terminal B to baggage claim can take a while without the moving walkways

Detroit- 30 minute connections (acceptable connection time for Delta) going from Terminal A to B/C. Yes you have the train in A, but running through the disco tunnel then heading upstairs and to a CRJ isn't a fun experience

JFK- Terminal 4 is a long walk from the Airtrain to the end at gate B55. You can cut out part of the walk with the jitney (aka fancy word for a bus) but it's still pretty far

Minneapolis- Terminal A to F is again a pretty long walk with only stair boarding at those A gates. Makes for chilly mornings/evenings in Minneapolis winters

IAH has that stupid thing they call a tram that is worthless. However, their international wing is pretty good. ORD is also really efficient with their international wing. As much as I love Colorado, DEN is a complete disaster. One of the worst international entries and the the check in is a complete shite show.
