re: Is LAX the worst airport in the US

As someone mentioned, ATL is good for connecting but bad for direct flights in and (especially) out of there. At DFW you have multiple security checkpoints in each terminal vs ATL where everyone is funneled through the same one THEN you have to disperse to different terminals.

LAX is undergoing some major renovations and upgrades in preparation for the 2028 Olympics. That being said, I fly out of Burbank 95% of the time here. They are building a new terminal and that’s gonna be awesome when that’s done!

can't be... according to TD, MSY is the worst car rental in the world. no other airport has a 15 minute shuttle.

I never understood the hate for Newark. I've never had any problem and the train will take you right into Penn Station unlike LaGuardia.

CLT is my least favorite, 25+ years ago it was probably my favorite. Seems like I always have ridiculously long taxi times there, the B and C concourses, especially at the ends are stupid crowded, the E concourse is like a FEMA refuge camp (fortunately my home market *mostly* flies mainline into CLT these days so I avoid that eagle's nest), just awful. I don't remember it being so crowded as a US hub, but as an AA hub it seems they're past capacity.
I think a lot of the Atlanta hate, especially on a southern based message board, is that Delta sends everybody in the region through there and if the weather is bad in ATL, you're screwed with really no other options. Here in Pensacola your options on Delta are...Atlanta (I do think they have one flight a day to LGA on a CRJ, but that may be seasonal). The other carriers pretty much have nonstop flights to multiple hubs east of the rockies (AA to DFW, CLT, PHL, DCA, MIA; UA to DEN, IAH, ORD; WN to DEN, DAL, HOU, MCI, STL, BNA, MDW), not so much with Delta.

Only noobs go through the main checkpoint. If you travel more than once per year, you should have Precheck and go to the dedicated checkpoint in the south terminal. If you're not checking a bag, then you can go check in at the International terminal.

Atlanta is the worst airport in the history of aviation.

JFK takes the cake for me. I had a surreal experience once switching from domestic to international terminals where every tram was out of order and I ended up getting a ride with a random Indian guy, which needless to say, should never happen. Then my gate May as well have been an abandoned Harlem bus stop.

Newark but IMO is the easiest to fly in and out of and get to midtown.
Newark is a terrible airport to connect through, it's not so bad if you're goign to NY, probably better than the other two.
Philly is a really shitty airport, like LAX.

Not saying LAX is the best in the world, but I haven't had any issues when I've flown out of there. Granted, every time I've been I flew with Delta. Also didn't have any issues with rental car either. Delta terminals dump you out right next to the bus, hop on, ride 10 mins, go up escalator and get car.

Kansas City was complete arse, but it looks like they built a new terminal in 2023.

Newark and O'Hare are worse IMHO.
