I have only flown a couple times in my life. We are flying out of NOLA at 6:30 a.m. for next week and was wondering what time we needed to be there by thinking maybe an early flight would have less worries and issues. Would arriving by 5 a.m. be needed - 5:30 a.m.??

Edit: Delta Airlines Thursday morning.

Every time I fly out of Nola it's a crapshoot. I could get through in 2 min or 2 hours.

5 would be less stressful. If you are not TSA pre or Global Entry I would think 1.5 is necessary there due to long lines.

I assume you don't have pre check

if you are checking a bag I'd get there 2 hours before flight just to be safe

if you are not checking a bag I'd say 90 min

book your parking in advance at flymsy.com

before anyone flips out- I am only saying those times because he is not an experienced flier. The wife and I usually get there about 45 min-hour before flight but we don't check bags and have pre check

Just show up at 6:30 am, you’ve already got your ticket.

Don’t overthink this.

I'd get there at 5 and reserve parking ahead of time

Good advice, and if anyone at the airport gives you any grief just tell them you have a bomb.

No less than an hour, unless you want to be stressed out. Never know how and where different scenarios come up. Issue with the parking, ticket issues & technicalities etc… and/or long lines.

To be safe, I always try to be 1.5-2 hours early.

I haven't had any issues with New Orleans since the new airport opened
It flows pretty quick

Also depends on where you are parking

I always give a cushion no matter when I fly and the amenities in the New Orleans airport are not bad at all if you need to kill some time

MIL’s rule was always 1 hour for domestic, 2 hours for international. We’ve done slight variations of that, but 5:00 AM arrival at MSY should be fine

Usually I coordinate this with how many pre-flight drinks I plan to imbibe, and whether I plan to grab a meal before boarding.

I think you'll be good at 5-5:30 arrival time.

Depends on the airport and location . When I fly out of BR I get there a hour before . Flying out of Nola 2 hours before.

Can't drink all day if you don't start at 5:30.

Depends on day and time. Monday and Friday mornings can get pretty crowded. Even with TSA it may take at least 45 minutes to get through security on those days and worse (maybe as much as double) in the regular line. I would arrive at least 2 hours ahead of time on those days and less on others.

Remember, a 6:30 flight starts boarding around 6. And first flights of the morning all leave around the same time so the TSA line can go from 10 people to 100 within just a few minutes. I’d get there for 5 and you’ll probably zip right through security and have time to grab a coffee before boarding.
