Haven't been to Ft Walton since my swinging single days back in the 90's. Since then, we have always gone to GS. Planning beach trip for the fam this summer. Wondering if GS has surpassed Ft Walton as a family destination.

Which does the OT prefer?

I’ll never understand why the people in the southeast part of this country can’t get out of their own way.

Post this on the Travel board.
Ft. Walton is not bad, but if you want to hit up better restaurants and do non-beach fun stuff, you have to drive into Destin. Depending on the traffic, that can be a pain in the arse.

I prefer to not spend money in the state of Alabama. I have no idea if the hotel taxes i pay make it to Alabama or Auburn, but just to be safe, i just don't stay in that state, or fill up with gas either.

Which weekend baw?

Me and 11 of my best friends are hitting up GS about a month from now.

I'm 26 and single for context. Passing my section of beach with your kiddos will not be a good idea.

Just got back from Destin and with all of the traffic due to road construction, I'd steer clear of Destin. Ft. Walton isn't as bad though. As for Gulf Shores, I'd give the nod to Ft. Walton just based on the water being a little prettier and having more things to do as well. Honestly this time of year the traffic will be a little bad all along the coast. Have fun!

Trashy vs. poor.

Is that the opinion you were expecting? This is the OT.

Nevermind. Trashy AND poor.

They're exactly the same. There will be a bunch of overweight men sitting under an SEC University tent that they probably didn't attend wearing a neon colored mesh hat drinking cheap beer. They'll be accompanied by their fat wife sucking sugar out of a yeti cup and their three shite head kids slinging sand all over everyone else's shite.

Exactly, and add them blasting their crappy Kenny Chesney/Zac Brown Band playlist as loud as their crappy Bluetooth speaker will go.

Lots to do in GS. But I guess I'm kind of biased.
