Waterscape in FWB is one of the better family options in the Gulf Shores/FWB/Destin area.

I don’t get why people from Louisiana choose Gulf Shores when FWB/Destin is only ~30 more minutes of driving.

It's all the same.

I will say Gulf Shores has a neat little zoo if you have small kids.

there was a time where that aspect was sort of "cute," and a fun place, it has degenerated into nothing but trash, filth, drugs, skanks, ripoffs, shitty restaurants and the associated clientele that that environment attracts, plus, it's in alabama

I prefer to not spend money in the state of Alabama. I have no idea if the hotel taxes i pay make it to Alabama or Auburn, but just to be safe, i just don't stay in that state, or fill up with gas either.

So are you one of those weirdos that doesn't like a state or place because of something as trivial as a sports rivalry?

I’m talking total travel time.

From the BR area: 3:30 or so to Gulf Shores and 4 hours to FWB.

Ft. Walton, and it's not even close. Gulf Shores is gross.

Biased opinion, my family owns a couple units at Phoenix 10 in Orange Beach. It's pretty much a wash between the two. There's more traffic in FWB. Water is nice both places. GS/OB/Perdido is more laid back, and an easier ride.

I don't get why people make crap up about drive time. On a normal drive with the traffic during the summer, you are looking at a minimum of an hour more to Destin. And the traffic once in Destin is a cluster fck all summer.

Orange Beach has many more activities and better restaurants that FWB as well.
And yes, the sand and water is better at FWB though.

You’re doing it wrong if it takes you 5 hours to drive to FWB from BR.

The last time I drove to FWB, I was pulling into the hotel parking garage in just under 4 hours from Baton Rouge.

Don't forget the Mobile Tunnel traffic! It's like people freak out and slam on the brakes because they forgot how to drive all of a sudden.

No need to stop on a 4 hour drive.

Best time to do so is 5-6pm. You hit the Mobile tunnel around 7:30-8:30 with virtually no traffic and you just keep on cruising.
