Mrs. Puerto and I are planning a beach trip there. Recs?
We really just like hanging out on a pretty beach. The view and the beach are more important than luxuries (although we will take those too).
This will be in early July. Fully aware of hurricane risk.

I love Key West. It is a great place for a vacation but I would not call it a great beach destination. They have some beaches there, the nicest being the one next to the fort, but even that one is small and basic by Florida standards.

Just got back from Key Largo - Baker’s Kay had a pretty sizable beach for the Keys. Also had a secluded type beach as well. Would recommend the hotel

The keys don’t have a lot of beaches OP. It’s mostly mangrove islands, so you need to make sure where ever you go has a beach. Most of the actual beaches are man mad. It’s not like there’s shoreline to just walk for miles and miles.
I’m not saying you can’t do your vacation as planned, but just make sure you know that going in.

Yeah…the keys are not a beach destination. Maybe look a little further south and get some inspiration from your username and go to PR?

Good info. Just assumed the keys had beaches. Thanks to all of the responses for not adding the “, dumbass” that question deserved.
I need a beach near a major airport for timing reasons.
If anyone still reading, how about beaches around Miami?

Lots of options here. I like Lido Key/Siesta Key near Sarasota. Tons of beaches off A1A in Ft Lauderdale, think there's a nice Westin right on the beach.

Check out Anna Maria Island near Bradenton/Tampa area. Our favorite beach so far.

And Siesta Key and Naples and Marco Island. None are far from RSW.

The beach next to Fort Zachry Taylor is not that bad. I would just go there and enjoy Key West.

take the 2hr flight to Cancun
you’ll be on a gorgeous beach 20 minutes after landing
haven’t stayed there yet but the club med in the hotel zone looks really nice (and it’s not a high rise)

Miami mid-beach is nice, not a huge fan of south beach. Stay at the Fontainebleau.

Than you may not want to go to the keys. Views there is plenty of but it's not very beachy. They have some but it's not a place you go to and hang out on a beach.

I'm looking to explore the Keys.
I'm going to drive down and stay in Key Largo one night then spend a couple of days sight seeing.
What is a good place to stay? Just as far as commuting to different places? Islamorda? Marathon or should we just stay in Key West?

The Key West B&B is my favorite.

My preference is Islamorada with either a day trip down to Key West OR maybe one night down there before or after your stay in Islamorada.
It's about a two hour drive from Islamorada to Key West so it's not a commute you want to do daily but it's doable if you want to leave early in the morning, catch the first sea plane out to the dry tortugas, grab lunch and see a few spots in Key West then head back to Islamorada.
I prefer to stay in Islmoarada at some place with a private boat dock and rent my own boat for the week and captain my own sunset cruises, take boat over to Robbies, bring rented paddleboards over to the mangroves, etc. They have dive bars (Hog's Heaven), nice dining (Loralei), food trucks, two craft breweries, live music and family friendly places like Robbie's.

This helps. Thanks!
Can you only get to Robbie's by boat?

No, you can drive there too we just used the boat cause it was more fun.
We have always used A1A for our deck boat rental.
Islamorada Sand Bar
Snorkeling out at Alligator Reef was about a 6 mile run
