Looking next year to bring my kids who will be 4 and 7 to Disney for the week. Any recommendations or tips? Where to stay, etc.

Thanks.

Good luck with this thread and all the negativity sure to come... although, the TB seems to be a lot more understanding than the OT.

You looking to stay on property? Although, believe a lot of the benefits have been stripped at this point if I remember right.

No matter what, enjoy the time with the kids. They will love it and it will be a memory your 7yr old will remember forever. The 4yr old may be a little too young to remember the experience.

Look into renting DVC points.

Bay Lake Tower is walking distance to Magic Kingdom.

Boardwalk and Beach Club you can walk to Epcot and a Hollywood Studios (about a mile).

Riviera is on the skyliner, so can take that to Epcot and HS.

For kids that age, Epcot is a waste of time. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge that last time I set $10k on fire (see, I had to get the dig in there) and took the boat taxi to the park and enjoyed it.

My wife and I have gone a few times in the last 5-6 years and we have stayed at Pop Century and we love it. The kids love the big characters and it has a huge pool. It also has access to the skyliner which is a great way to get to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. I fully disagree that Epcot is a waste of time for young kids. There are a lot of shows that they will enjoy and there are kid friendly activities at each country as well. And they have great food in Epcot as well. I think every park is worth going to and spending at least two days in Magic Kingdom is a must IMO. I do not think the dining plan is worth it with kids. They do not eat enough to make it worth it. We always get the Lightning Lane upgrade that allows you to skip lines. I don't want to drop at least $5k and then spend my time waiting in long lines. It takes more planning and you'll be on your phone more booking your next ride but it's absolutely worth it to me. I'd watch a youtube video on how it works ahead of time because it is quite complicated but worth it. My wife is a Disney lover and went a lot as a kid and she has gotten me on board. As much political nonsense Disney has done lately Disney World is basically free of all that. Let me know if you want anymore recs and I'll do my best to help out!

We started going about once a year when our kids were that age. Here's a few thoughts:

-Being walking distance (or on the monorail line) with young kids is soooo nice, if you can afford it. If you're looking for value resorts, Pop Century is underrated and has a great food court.

- Build your trip around Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios for kids that age. The others are great too, but probably a step down compared to MK and HS for young kids (unless you have a girl that's obsessed with Frozen, which is at Epcot).

- Use Rider Swap when your youngest is too small to ride something. Your oldest will get to ride twice, and the second adult rider gets to use the lightning lane with the child.

- Figure out the lightning lane system and book them in advance (I think a week before you go).

- Don't discount resort days. The resorts are fun, with pools, etc. Parks two days in a row can really wear on the kids.

This is how we did it when ours were around that age. Mine were closer together in age so I dont recall if a 7 year old still rides in a stroller.

If you want happy kids, DO NOT, go all day.

Stay at Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club or Swan/Dolphin.

Get to the patks ealry in the morning. Go back to the resort after lunch.

Spend time at the pool and/or rest. Definitely nap time for kids.

Clean up and walk to Dinner and Epcot (dinner can be in Epcot).

Stroll the kids around epcot while you and the spouse have drinks. They will likely fall asleep in the stroller until the fireworks begin. We did this every night for multiple years.

Stay away from “All Star” or the low end resort if possible. French Quarter on property is convenient and has good set up. They change the ticketing and fast pass every year so research that. Yak and Yeti restaurant is fun and decent food.

Enjoy!

Epcot is probably the best park and has 100% the best ride (guardians).

7 year old will be able to do everything there and 4 year old will be able to do almost everything.

Test track soarin Moana water thing spaceship earth remys ratatouille adventure figment.

It has plenty for young kids.

I'm also eyeing Mardi Gras next year for a Disney trip. I've heard the crowds will be rough but we'd love to avoid the heat if possible.

Stay on property. Book early and make reservations as soon as they open for any activities you want to participate in. Learn to master the My Disney Experience App.

We go every year around Christmas, I have a family of 5. My top advice to people is stay at a Good Neighbor hotel which gives you free shuttle to and from the parks and also early entry which we do everyday. The good neighbor hotel will save you thousands of dollars. I have stayed on resort 1 time and I just dont see the reason for paying all that money just to sleep. Take the saved money and make sure to get your multi pass lightening lane passes. In the mornings if we want to leave before the shuttle (we get there very early and try to be almost first in line....it is just what we like to do) we get an Uber which is typically less than $20. The hotel we use is the Double Tree at Disney Springs. Now all good neighbor hotels do not offer early entry if that is what you are interested in. You can get a grocery delivery to your room also which we typically order while riding to the hotel. We arent big breakfast eaters so we put a couple turkey sandwiches in my backpack to snack on until lunch. We use the quick service meals for a late lunch and you can book them in the app so they are ready when you pick them up.

Crowds won't be terrible because Mardi Gras and President's Day are not the same week so the northern states will still be in school. We went for Mardi Gras this past year and it was President's Day as well and it was ridiculously packed. Would avoid that in the future but I think for the next few years it doesn't line up where they are on the same week.

It is so hot and a lot of walking. The cruise is much more enjoyable with the young ones if characters>rides is what you are after.

Don't know if cause I opened this thread or what, but my algorithm popped a video on Disney earlier and it was going over park attendance so far this summer and its way down to pre-2022 levels.

I know OP isn't going now, but they attribute it to hotter than usual in Orlando, FIFA World Cup taking away international travelers, and prices.

Exactly why we booked another trip this summer

I used to hate the summer when it was busy but they've done a good (or bad depending on how you look at it) job of evening the crowds out over the year. It used to be a unicorn sighting to see a summer resort sale, now, it happens every year.

That being said, we will only be in Orlando 4 days and only doing three parks. Two of them (Epcot and Hollywood Studios) we are skipping park tickets and just doing After Hours and only one park day at Magic Kingdom.
