COVID test to return to U.S. - when will it end?
Posted by skewbs

Unreal that U.S. citizens still have to take a COVID test to return to the country from international travel. How ridiculous is this shite.
I know the TSA / airline mask mandate had an end date. Does the entry COVID test requirement also have an end date or is it indefinite until Biden decides we are safe?

Unlike the mask mandate the Covid re entry testing requirement has no end date. I believe the regulation gives the power to end it only when the secretary decides we are no longer in the grasp of the greatest killer the world has ever known. In short don’t expect it to end until there is a new administration installed.

This is far worse than the mask mandate in my opinion. What if this actually was a serious virus? You're just gonna abandon your citizens in foreign territory with possibly shite medical care?
We have covid all over the US. There's no isolating it to other countries. I could understand if you're an island nation that covid hasn't reached yet but that isn't the case. Just stupid. Its not required for domestic flights, but it is required for entry by boat or car, so its not just because they dont want you exposing other people on a plane. Guess we have to wait until we no longer have a "xenophobic" president

Jeez is that still really a thing? I'll be flying back to the US later this month and hadn't even thought about that
So dumb didn't even have to take a test when I entered Canada

Canada just ended theirs on April 1st. Still can't believe the US requires this for entry.

If you can make it to a land border crossing, a negative test isn’t required.

It truly is dumb as hell. It's amazing that we're still doing it.
No lie, I was planning a secondary return plan from Paris last weekend in case of a positive test. We looked at a flight switch to Toronto, then cross into Buffalo and fly home from there.
This was at least an hour of my life I wasted because of this stupidity.

Yeah, Toronto to Buffalo on a bus. Or you can get from Vancouver to Seattle via train or bus.
Beats being stranded overseas for a week.

I was just reading you need to take a test 1 day before boarding home to the US? That can be difficult. I am going to be in Latvia flying to Warsaw Sunday night at 6:40p. Stay overnight and fly direct to LAX the next day at 11:20am. Getting a test in Latvia on a Sunday during their holiday might be tough.
Anyone have recommendations regarding other tests that might work or that people have used?
