Will be in Chicago this summer for a bachelor party (just 4 guys in our mid-40s). I've got some restaurant reservations set, but I wanted to discuss taking in a game at Wrigley.

Cubs have the Reds Friday @ 1:20, Saturday @ 6:15, and Sunday @ 1:20.

Is it worth it to carve out 3,4 hours of her day to go to a game? If so, are day games or night games better? What are the best places to sit? Or, what are some places not to sit? Does Wrigley offer any good food / drink items or is it standard baseball fare? Do they still offer the "Old Style" beer? Any good bars and restaurants around Wrigley?

Day Game for sure

Get there early and drink at Sluggers

Bleacher seats are great, don't do a roof top

day game in bleachers for a bachelor party crew
it can get a little rowdy

wrigley is pretty much standard ballpark food but they do have some surrounding areas to drink and eat before game

Friday afternoon game at Wrigley will be a great experience

Stands will be packed out, Wrigleyville will be hopping before and after

In the summer, doesn't totally matter - all three in this homestand will be packed. If bar hopping Wrigleyville is part of the experience for your group, run with Saturday night. Otherwise, 1:20 is great because bars open early, you'll get drunk in the stands, and be out at a good hour for anything at night.

Just grab GA tickets for bleachers and give yourself some flexibility of arriving early for seats closer to the vines or chilling on the Budweiser Deck. Personally, I go with the Budweiser Deck and get the flexibility of easily grabbing beers and watching a few pitches if I want.

It's fine - there are stations to run your hot dog through the garden, which is a nice touch.

Home Run Inn also does a solid enough job with their pizza inside the stadium.

It's actually not at many concessions but is around.

Plenty. Crawl up Clark for some wilder bars (i.e. Sluggers, Moe's, Old Crow) and Murphy's is a classic and across Sheffield from bleachers entrance. For something in-between that and chill, aim for Will's -> Sheffield's. You could even go a way more chill route and do Southport Corridor for food/beer at Corridor, drinks at Toons and a patio drink at Tuco and Blondie.

Are bleachers preferred instead of behind home plate or behind the dugouts?

If first any only time in Wrigley, bleachers for a day game is the iconic experience. But I wouldn’t carve out 3-4 hours. I’d plan to get there around noon and be prepared to spend the rest of the day.

Partying in Wrigleyville is part of the experience and one that will be remembered.

That being said, in the summer it can get hot so be prepared to bake in the bleachers. My brother and I make a Wrigley trip each year and we have sat everywhere in the park. We have grown to love the 400 level. Either side. Very underrated. Keep an eye out for obstructed view if you go for 400 level. Generally cheap tickets and in the shade…and after about 20 games in Wrigley, night games are now what we really enjoy. Just a different atmosphere

Honestly, it's your preference. You get a nice view of the bleachers + couple high rises in Lake View East from home plate and dugout, but it's definitely a different experience from the bleachers. Know you're in your 40s, but you'll get a healthier dose of being able to watch baseball and socialize with people around you in the bleachers. I've lived in Chicago for a decade and been to countless Cubs games - have only sat in the 400s and behind visitors dugout one time each. Personal preference, but I just grab GA tickets. Nice to have flexibility of hanging out in Budweiser Deck or sitting.

Me and about 6 other guys went to the Cubs game the day before LSU played Wisconsin. Day game at Wrigley on a Friday at 1:20 and it was packed. We sat in the upper deck behind home plate in the shade and had a blast. If you sit upper deck, 1st base side, very top row, you can see the Chicago skyline. Great spot

Last time I was there they were playing stlouis. Sammy Sosa was in the homerun race with Mcguire. Place was total electric. Batting practice was great. We took the elevated from Evanston to the ballpark. Use that to get to ballpark.

Went to first Cubs game last summer after always having wanted to attend one. Saturday day game.

Definitely worth carving out time to do it, IMO.

Got tickets for a night game in April. It's my first trip to Wrigley.

It sounds like it’s definitely worth it to go.l to the game. I’m thinking either the Friday game or Sunday game (don’t want to cancel drinks and dinner reservations for a night baseball game on Saturday).

The only hang up I have is where in Wrigley to sit. I know I mentioned bachelor party, but our ages range from 43 - 48. Put it like this, we all have a little bit of money, are married (soon-to-be for one), have kids, etc.

I’m fine sitting in the bleachers; however, the potentially baking in the sun is off putting. Also, if it’s just a bunch of drunk, rowdy, obnoxiously loud, fresh out of college kids…well…I can drink as many beers I want in good, shaded seats with seat backs without being subjected to that. Make sense?

Just trying to get that out there for more concise recommendations, but if the bleachers is “something you’ve got to do once…” well, then that will obviously skew things.

If you are a baseball fan in general, it is definitely worth the experience. We sat in right field bleachers and it was a good time. Murphy's, Cubby Bear and Sluggers were all good spots to drink before and after the game that I can remember.

Definitely go - but wait until closer to the game to buy tickets.

I went in June, it was cool-ish and we were under the second level in the shade and damned near froze to death.

I wished we had bleacher seats that day, but if it was 88 and sunny, I'd probably see it differently.

Longtime TD lurker, signed up just to reply to this post. Swing for the good seats behind the plate. Been to many games at Wrigley, done the bleachers once, and it wasn't for me. It's been awhile, this was before the 2015 renovation of the bleachers, but it was a sunny August day, wind blowing in off the lake, it was nice and comfortable in the main seats but we were absolutely cooking in the bleachers...not to mention, they're bleachers, so the back was a little sore. Just make sure to stay in front of the support poles and you'll be fine (anything in the single digits, double digits, or 100s will be in front of the poles, which begin at about row 6/7 in the 200s). The lower part of the upper deck is actually the best bang for your buck at Wrigley, IMO, but if you can swing club box seats, go for it. Also, wise choice with the day game.

I’m picking up what you’re putting down and will tell you don’t sit in the bleachers. Plenty of people are going to disagree. You’re gonna have to choose for yourself.

Definitely do the Friday day game

Ive done the bleachers once (late July) and not for me... I always go behind the plate/baselines...

I also dont care for the bars around Wrigley, except maybe the Nisei or GMan Tavern... personal preference though...

Thanks for this info, going in April to watch the Astros at Wrigley in the mid-week. Two night games and a day game. Got good seats behind the plate for game 1, will look into the lower part of upper deck for the 2nd game, and the third day is a day game and we will have to leave early to catch flight so probably going bleachers then. Assuming the Wrigleyville area will be pretty calm with it being a Tuesday-Thursday series but are the bars open kinda early? Would think a fun afternoon since it is my first time would be head over and walk around the neighborhood and barhop pre-game on Tuesday.

everything will be open by 11AM, some as early as 8 or 9 for day games. Weather can be very dicey in April, I was going to say, if you haven't already purchased tickets, the secondary market should be buyer friendly for a midweek series in April, but the Astros haven't played at Wrigley in awhile. Use CTA if you can, red line stops just beyond the right field gate.
