We have been to the campus one time but never ventured out. My wife and I will have 2 days to go explore while he is occupied. Is there anything that we can go do in the area or towards Shreveport/Monroe areas.

Any good places to take him to go eat - will be a Wednesday - Friday

These are places you travel OUT OF. The I20 corridor is kinda rough man.

Mt Driskill maybe.

Dawg House is okay. It's right off campus.

Surge in West Monroe if you're looking for something fun for everyone to do. There are plenty of good food options in Monroe/West Monroe.
Antique Alley in West Monroe is neat and they have events on weeknights.

Ruston has a few decent new shopping centers if your wife likes to shop.

I assume you're traveling up I-55 then I-20 to get there.
There are probably some things to do in Vicksburg.

And they're about 30 min from Ruston in Bienville Parish, way the heck out in BFE.

Spin by Grambling, see if the old black dude with dreadlocks is still alive. If he is, take a picture with him, he'd be the local version of Keith Richards.

For out of towners with no plan during a random weekdays, not really to be honest

Yes, what are you looking for. IMO, Ruston doesn’t have anything in the way of nice restaurants that are all that good, but has a lot of lunch or casual spots that are. Bristers is technically bbq, but I look at it more as a sandwich place and it is very good. Teriyaki grill is good qsr for lunch. Plenty of Mexican places that are all fine, as mentioned dog house is ok. Trios is a “nicer” restaurant in town, but I find the food to be very average.

If you want something nice, I’d say cotton in Monroe, it’s really good. Not really good for N Louisiana, really good for anywhere

I'm pretty sure the Dawg House closed. It was kind of like a Walk-Ons.

Ponchatoulas is good right there in Ruston.

I spend a good bit of time on the I-20 corridor and can't really think of anything exciting to do during the day middle of the week. You could ride north to Lake D'arbonne and find a local place to eat or visit the state park.

They built a new one and tore the old one down.

The new one closed a few weeks ago. My daughter was working there when they shut it down.

My youngest is graduating next month from Tech. I can't say enough good things about the place.

As far as food goes, the Doe's in Monroe is good and much nicer than the one in Baton Rouge.

White Lightning has good food & cocktails. It's in the shopping center behind Raising Canes.

Ruston does not really have anything that stands out food wise. Monroe is a much better option. The best meal in Monroe is at Parish. It can punch with any place in the state. Other good options include Apero, Does, Cotton, Mohawk, Warehouse, Waterfront, Genusas, Ginos, Monroe's, Fat Pelican. For crawfish hit Cormiers, Crawfish City or Claw Daddy's. If you are wanting something specific I can try to steer you there.

Must have been for a building preview because they're auctioning it off this week. It's definitely closed.

Buddy of mine who has a kid there too called a couple weeks ago and asked if I wanted to buy it with him and open a restaurant. I politely declined.

The Mohawk is a sort of cool throwback place. It's been around forever.

Waterfront is located where a well known dive bar was in the 70s and 80s (the Siesta.)

Genusas and Genos are sentimental favorites as they have been there forever.

I was there in November and I watched most of the LSU Florida game there. They haven’t posted anything on facebook since end of December and they were posting regularly before that.

Bringing son to Ruston for orientation in middle of June

When I attended Tech orientation, I said goodbye to my parents, got on a motorcycle with a duffle bag, and headed to Ruston for about three days. Stayed in a dorm. Didn’t know a soul there when I arrived, but got in with some other kids, finagled a large beer purchase, and had a good time. My parents had no idea what I was doing there or how to even get in touch with me. Times have changed.
