Bringing son to Ruston for orientation in middle of June
Posted by tigertail34 on 4/27/25 at 7:11 pm
We have been to the campus one time but never ventured out. My wife and I will have 2 days to go explore while he is occupied. Is there anything that we can go do in the area or towards Shreveport/Monroe areas.
Any good places to take him to go eat - will be a Wednesday - Friday

With the Synology it looks like I buy the NAS unit and then the drives?
Is Amazon the best place to purchase?
So in theory myself, wife and each child could have a folder and access it whenever/wherever they want correct?
Im a windows style with 10,0000 folders for everything to try and stay somewhat organized!

My wife and I currently run a few small businesses from our kitchen table as well as on different jobsites/properties.
We both use laptops and phones to conduct business.
We were using a google drive to share between computers and such but recently reached the storage capacity of my laptop with and was not able to store anymore on the google drive?
We also have 3 kids who are are on gaming systems/streaming as well as all of our viewing is through streaming services.
We would like to be able to share our files and have access to one location with folders from any location, so looking into the best route to help make this work.
I would also like to backup all of our info/data since it is both impotant business documents and personal photos/files wewould hate to lose.

As said before, get a skid steer
I like the skid steers, but not looking to spend a fortune and I may only use it 3-5 times a year on projects...just hate paying to rent and limited use. I like the tractors because i can get a new one with warranty for less than a decent used skid steer.

Looking at a Kubota B2301 and John Deere 1025R
Probably going to finance a new one since rates are 0% for 60-84 months with insurance and attachments included.
We are in Mandeville and do renovation projects/flip a few houses and occasionally have the need to remove underbrush and old landscaping as well as grading out those areas.
After we just shelled out over 3k for a skid steer rental to basically sit half the time with all the rain/storm, and still more rental time to come....I started looking into just purchasing a small piece of equipment to have when needed without worrying about time frames.
I went to the local dealers in Covington for both manufacturers and was very happy with both!
Main requirements:
has a bucket, can grade yards for sod, can move sand/dirt, pull out bushes and small sapling, can dump into my dump trailer, does not tear up yards too bad.
Any suggestions or pros/cons?

Just make sure you get the proper reservations. If the days/times you are looking at are all sold out, then get on the website at 7 pm sharp the day before and get them. They release 40% of the reservations then, and they sell out in minutes or less.
So is it possible for us to not even be able to get into the park?

There’s easily enough in and around RMNP to keep anyone busy for a month of hiking.
Would 2 days be enough time to get a good experience in the park?
Not huge hikers, but would like to drive around and get out and do some walking around...light trails.

Tuesday - Boulder in morning - Boulder to Nederland and up to Estes PArk for rest of day in RMNP.
Stay in Estes Park
Wednesday - RMNP and then travel to Breckenridge
Stay in Breckenridge
Thursday - Breckenridge to Idaho falls for 2 hour rafting trip.
Stay in Breckenridge
Friday - Hang around resort and do slides and local activities
Stay in Breckenridge
Saturday - Breckenridge to Garden of Gods and back to Denver - Fly out at 6:00

Acclimate well. Drink lots of water before going there so you don’t get altitude sickness. Peak is 13k base town is between 9k and 10k. One of highest Colorado places. Acclimation is real.
Was not prepared for this! Please explain a little more and best way to prevent this please.

Looks like the Winter Park alpine slide will be down, but Breckenridge has one and looks like it could be a fun town to be able to go walk through at night and do some fun stuff?
It looks like we could land in Denver early Monday, spend 2 nights in Grand Lake area to be able to hit RMNP...not a whole lot available is Estes for our size.
From there three nights in Breckenride type area and then back through to Colorado Springs Saturday/Fly out late Saturday night.
Does this sould like it could give us a good taste of Colorado and the Rocky Mtns?

and this board has been very helpful.
Family of 6(45/45/20/18/15/11)
I have been all over the place idea wise...Banff, Yellowstone, Cascades, Moab, etc...
I have come to the conclusion to plan for one of those trips next year with more prep and this summer making a trip to the Colorado area.
We have never been to Colorado or the Rocky mountains.
Looking at a Monday -Saturday and trying to see RMNP and Pikes Peak/Garden of the Gods.
I have been looking in the Granby Lake area and then thought a few days at a Resort may be fun and give us some things to do with the trails/gondolas/alpine slides and such. I have found some good rates at Winter Park which looks like it fits in that loop as well as maybe Breckenridge?
Looking for suggestions. Will be flying in to Denver from New Orleans
